-Hometown HEROES RACHEL N. WILSON Marine Pvt. Rachel N. Wil son, daughter of James L. and Njta K. Wilson of Edenton, re cently completed basic train ing at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC and was promoted to her present rank. ;tyilson successfully com pleted 12 weeks of training designed to challenge new Marine recruits both physi cally and mentally. Wilson and fellow recruits b,egan their training at 5 a.m., by _ running three miles and performing calisthenics. They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training. Wilson and other recruits afso received instruction on the Marine Corps’ core values - hopor, courage and commit ment, and what the words mean in guiding personal and pro fessional conduct. Wilson and fellow recruits ended the training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour team effort, problem-solving evolu tion which culminated with an emotional ceremony in which the recruits were presented the Marine Corps Emblem; and were addresses as Marines for the first time since boot camp began. W’ilson joins 41,000 men and women who will enter the Ma rine Corps this year from all over the country. She is a 1998 graduate of John A. Holmes High School in Edenton. All businesses are required to complete and file a Business Personal Property form by January 31,1999. Persons 65 years old or totally disabled with an income less than $15,000 may qualify for the Elderly and Disabled Exemption. If you meet these require ments, please contact the tax department. All improvements made to real property since Janu ary 1,1999 are to be reported on the tax listing form. The tax listing forms will be mailed December 31, 1999. Completed forms must be returned by January 31,1999 to avoid a 10% penalty on personal property. Forms may be returned by mail. If assistance is needed, you may go to the Chowan County Tax Listing Department, 113 E. King St., Monday thru Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM beginning January 4, 1999.
