OBITUARIES r , /funerals, cards of thanks MERLE A. ARCHIBALD Merle Ainsworth Archibald, 80, of 319 Manteo Trail, Edenton, died Sunday, April 18. Mr. Archibald was born in Portland, ME. He was the re tired owner of the Mountainview Coffee Shop in Jackman, ME. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Chris Zwieg Archibald of the home; his son, Joe Archibald and his wife Frankie of Mechanics ville, MD; three stepdaughters, Elaine Gregg and her husband Bob of Edgewater, MD, Angie Roberts and her husband Eddie of Waldorf, MD, and Ariane Haring and her husband Frank of Brandywine, MD; a sister, Audrey Pender of South Port land, ME; two grandsons Mikah and Joel; and five step grandchildren, Kelly, Cathy Peter, Cindy, and Melissa. MARY WHITE ASHLEY Mary White Ashley, 85, ol the 1400 block of Virginia Road died Monday, April 19 ir Chowan Hospital. She was the wife of the late Johnnie Earl Ashley and the daughter of the late Mollie Peele and Henry White, and the step-daughter of the late Nonie Miller White. She was preceded in death by one sister: Lydia Harrison; and two brothers: Marcus White and Carroll White. Funeral services were con ducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob young and Rev. Ben Gregory officiating. Burial followed in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. ROPER, NC - Mr. Charlii Warren Furlough, Sr., aged 85 of 1980 NC Hwy. 32 N., Roper NC, died Thursday afternooi at his home following a long illness. A native of Washington Co. born January 25,1914, Mr. Fur lough was the son of the latf Isaac Nathaniel Furlough anc Mrs. Mary Biggs Furlough. He was a member of the Edenton NC Church of God and had re tired from the True Temper Corporation with 30 years ol service. Surviving are his wife, Alice F. Furlough of the home, a son; Charlie W. Furlough, Jr., of the home, and a daughter; Mrs. Barbara F. Nobles, one sister; Annie Mae Armstrong of Eliza beth City. Eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter also survive. Funeral services were con ducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Edenton Church of God with Don Sawyer, Thomas Biggs, and Mitchell E. Edwards offi d dating. She retired from Carolina Telephone Company, was a member of Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church, where she served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and W.M.U. Director. She was an Albemarle Hospital volunteer, a member of Elizabeth City Rebecca Lodge #62, past presi dent and secretary of State Rebeccas, and a member of Telephone Pioneers Associa tion. Besides her husband, Mrs. Warren is survived by two daughters, Cheryl W. Sweitzer of Wake Forest, NC and Carlene H. Brown of McMinnville, TN; . two sons, Gerald (Jerry) War ren, Jr. of Durham, NC and C. Keith Warren of Rocky Mount, NC; two sisters, Paige Hollowell of Edenton, NC and Mary Emma Spivey of Hobbsville, NC; four brothers, Glenn Perry, Thomas Perry, and Emmett Perry, all of ; Edenton, NC and Ted Perry of Newport News, VA; six grand children, and two great grand children.
