Poet laureate is invited to visit tne friends ot the Library have become an integral part of library services in our com munity. The group now sends a quar terly newsletter, staffs book sales, helps fund adult pro grams, leads the monthly book discussion group,prepares and serves refreshments, and maintains a North Carolina file. The Friends also purchase equipment for the library such as paperback and audiotape racks, Venetian blinds, comput ers and furniture, and recently a collection of audiotape and book kits for early readers through middle school. Job Service releases recent figures BY RICKY COLTRAIN Manager Edenton job Services Office During the month of April, the Edenton Employment Se curity Commission (Job Ser vice) placed 54 individual in jobs and during the same pe riod of time the Edenton office processed 295 applications for employment. The primary mission of the Edenton Job Service office is to take applications for employ ment from job seekers and job orders from employers and then refer the best qualified applicants available for each job opening. Anyone seeking employment is encouraged to come in to the office and register for employ ment and/or utilize the self-ser vice Job Information System (JIS). Upon registering fp£ work, applicants can utilize the toll-free Jobs Line (1-800-768 5627) and can call Tuesday through Saturday between the -hours of 6 a.m. and midnight for information on available job openings. ( Employers may call 482-2195 or fax 482-2188 to list available job openings and receive screening and referral ser vices. The Edenton Job Service of fice is located at 1316-C North Broad Street, and is open from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. All ser vices are provided free of charge. Writing workshops scheduled College of the Albemarle's Continuing Education Division will offer "Writing Workshop: Advanced Plotting," beginning in June. The class, which will be taught by author Dana Hay, will meet Mondays, June 7 through July 19, from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30p.m., in room C-150 at the Elizabeth City campus. The cost of this class is $30 and there is a $10 book fee. A social security number is needed to register. Also in June, COA's Con.Ed. Division will offer "Writing Workshop: The Mystery of Good Writing," taught by Dana Hay, The class will meet June 9 through July 14, from 1:30-4:30 p.m., in room C-150 at the Eliza beth City campus.
