Abook signing is
always a special,
event as the author
greets thepublic and
autographs copies of
his work. And one
planned during this
year's Christmas
Candlelight Tout
will be even more
special because it in
volves the second
printing of a popm
lar book authored by
Blair Currie of
Edenton. Currie will
be signing copies of
his book, "Edenton:
A Celebration of
Life." this Friday
and Saturday front
2-5 p.nt. at the
Author Btair Currie wit! be signing copies
of a second edition of his book during the
Christmas Candtetight Tour.
Edenton Visitor Center.
This printing, just as the original, was underwritten by the
Edenton Woman's Club. Murielle Harmon is the club's liaison
for the Currie book project. "We are absolutely delighted with
the reprinting of Blair's charming hook." she said, "and pleased
to have partnered with him in its publication.
In his book. Currie profiles 89 local residents. He has called his
book "a real labor of love" and said he wrote it as a tribute to his
adopted hometown.
Heand his wife. Chrissie, came to America with their children
from their Scottish homeland in 1961. and came to Edenton in
1994 after hearing about it from a friend. It felt, Currie later said,
"like coming home".
Currie, born on Independence Day, spent six months putting
together his book, settling on some his subjects based on suggest
tions from friends and acquaintances. Of those, said the 72-year
old Currie, about a dozen or so of those profiled have died,
leaving his book as a iivingtestament to their memories of a way
of life now gone.
"I'm very pleased that their memories have been preserved in
this way," said Currie. "I believe that it fills a void. The book has
fulfilled my hopes because I' wanted to do it as a way to give
something back to Edenton. 1 feel it has accomplished that, so I'm
very happy about it."
