From Staff Reports
A record number of people headed
to the polls to vote in Tuesday’s mid
term election.
According to Terry Meyers, elec
tions director for Chowan County,
3,204 voters cast their ballots during
one-stop voting, which ended Satur
day.
It was about 32 percent of all vot
ers registered in the county. In the
region, more than a fourth of voters
have already cast ballots before elec ¬
tion day, which was Tuesday.
According to several people do
ing last minute campaigning at the
precincts Tuesday, voter turnout was
steady but not as plentiful as it was
during early voting.
Turnout across the 11 counties
representing Senate District 1 stood
at 25.7 percent, according to data
available after the end of early vot
ing on Saturday. About 37,800 voters
have cast ballots so far across the
counties. The Senate District 1 in
cludes Camden, Chowan, Currituck,
Pasquotank and Perquimans, plus
Dare, Gates, Hertford, Hyde, Tyrrell,
and Washington.
Chowan, along with Perquimans,
had the highest turnout in the region.
Perquimans reported 31 percent
turn-out so far.
Due to an early deadline, results
of the mid-term election were not
available for- publication in today’s
Chowan Herald.
