Clayton who has been in Petrie hospital for several weeks following a major operation, was dismissed Wednesday and return ed to his home at Brasstown. Jimmy Jordon. 19 months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jordon. who has been quite ill at Petrie hospital for the past ten days, is reported to be improving. * Taylor - Keener Vows Said Mr. and Mrs A. D. Taylor of Peachtree announce the marriage of their daughter, Grace to Elbert Keener, son of Mrs. Carl Keener of Tomotla. The wedding took place March 27. in the home of the Rev. C. The only attendants were Mrs. Gwynn Arrowood, cousin of the Uride. Mrs. Dixie Palmer and Miss flattie Palmer. The bride wore a beige suit with brown accessories and a cor dage of pink roses. Mrs. Sneed is a graduate of Struthers high school and was on general duty at Youngstown hos pital association for a year. She is now superintendent of nurses , at Petrie hospital. They are now at home i I at the residence of Mrs. Palmer. | Mrs. Miller Is Hostess Tuesday To Auxiliary The Woman's auxiliary of the Presbyterian church met with JVIrs. Harry Miller Tuesday after noon at her home on Valley River I avenue. Mrs. E. H. Brumby, president, presided, and opened the meeting with prayer. Mrs. T. G Tate read some prayer petitions. This being the first meeting of the new church year, business for the coming year was discussed and new year books distributed. Plans for holding a rummage and white elephant sale on May 22 were discussed. The annual presbyterial meeting which will be held in Black Mountain on April 27 was announced, and tentative plans for attending were made. Following the business session. Mrs Miller presented the program topic. "The Christian Home in a Changing World." Mrs. Tate offered prayer and the meeting was dismissed with the Mizpah benediction Mrs. Jim Gibbs and Mrs L A. Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Odom had as their week-end guests Mr. and Mrs Eddie Sweat of Atlanta and Miss Claude L. Love of Asheville Farm Training Program Reaches Nearly 200 Men A total of 192 trainees are tak ing advantage of the Farm Train ing program for veterans in Cherokee county. An average en rollment of 140 has been maintain ed for the past two-year period. The primary purpose of the Veterans Farmer Training pro gram is to help World War II Veterans get established in the business of farming, whereby at the end of their training period they will have acquired enough information, experience, and capi tal to become self-sufficient. During the latter part of 1946. Murphy high school set up an agriculture department not only to take care of the many veterans ir this county interested in farm ing. but also to broaden its cur riculum for high school boys. The shop building at Murphy high school was set aside as de partment headquarters. With school funds and federal funds paid to the school by the Veterans Administration to train Veteran Farmers, a first class department has been built. A classroom has been constructed, a shop fully equipped, reference library es tablished. audio visual aids and equipment obtained, and much I i other miscellaneous > quipment I i-cquired. The department is under the supervision of Glenn Patton, teacher of agriculture of Murphy High school. Working with him | are a number of assistant teach i rs who work together for the Veteran Farmer Training pro gram Each assistant teacher is , .11 charge of a number of veterans j varying from fourteen to eighteen. The Farm Program trainees are 1 i*tting a scientific agricultural background and are applying the ! the most up-to-date methods. The j informal and varied methods of , teaching include lectures, group discussions, on the job instruc tions. experience, field trips, shop I work, an unlimited amount of i available printed materials, and j extensive use of audio visual aids. In the near future a report of accomplishments for the year of 19 47 will be ready for publication in this newspaper.
