Demonstration clubs of Peacbtree.
Sunny Point and Suit on Friday.
The clubs will each be entrants in
the Mlodel Mile contest of the 1861
season. Proposed sites were in
spected, and Mr. Verner aided the
dubs in deciding between possible
sites, and problem spots were
pointed - out. He discussed the
treatment best for such spots and
made sketches suggestion solu
tions.
Mr. Verner advocated use of
native shrubbery principally. Spots
discussed included school and
Church locations, and the land
surrounding the church. In cer
tain Oases, especially around build
ings, Mr. Verner leans to the use
of nursery Shrubs rather than ad
hering rigidly to the native species
The Peaobtree club has under
consideration developing a picnic
site with its adjuncts. Miss Edna
Bishop States that the VaUeytown
Olub is making good progress in
planning for the contest. They
had the benefit of Mr. Venter's
advice recently.

Fatally Injured
At Oak Ridge
Robert H. (Happy) Stewart, 54,
vvas fatally injured at Oak Ridge
Lenn.. Thursday, March 8. A
heavy ohain struck him on the
head about 3:30 p. m. He died at
?:00 p. m. He had been engaged
in placing a heavy piece of elec
trical equipment when the acci
dent occurred.
Funeral services were held at

Church here.

phy the week of April 9 and is
asking that the town and all citi
zens cooperate in it. Mrs. Johnde

pointed by the president, Mrs. T.
S. Evans, as a committee to direct

Mr. Commander has been pas
tor of Eastwood Baptist Church,
Houston, since 1942 He is a
graduate of Baylor University.

degree there in 1936, and South
western Theological Seminary re
ceiving the Th. M degree there
in 1938.
He was born in Louisiana but
spent most of hie childhood in the
Northrwert, returning South for his
ministerial education.
Eastwood Church has enjoyed a
steady growth under his ministry,
end plans are now being made for
rn entirely new church plant to
be located on a beautiful three
acre site in the east sid of Hous
ton.
Mr. Commander has served his
denomination in several important
capacities and is at present the
chairman of the committee on
Evangelism for Union Baptist As
sociation. the churches of which
baptized over 5.000 people into
their membership during 1950.
