This was a record for this chapter. The visit was sponsored by the' Civitan Club, with Bill Bolton as chairman and Ike Oleon and Dr. A. J. Head rick as team captains. Olson's team was the winner Eleven Civitans gave blood. Tlrf center was set up in the basement of (First Baptist Churoh. Outstanding among the donors were the employees of Hitchcock Corporation and Minerals and Metals Corporation. Supt. Joe Bailey led the (roup, being the second person to register when when the center opened, and 58 other employees of the two firms reported. Blood Program Chairman Jas. R. Crook announced that Clyde Glad son recruited a total of 17 donors and also gave blood him self. Among the volunteer workers for the day were: Canteen, Mrs W. A. Hoover chairman. Mrs. Ray Fuller. Arthur (Continued an pace 4) MISS RUTH BAGWELL Miss Ruth Bagwell Leaves For Rowan Baptist Association Miss Ruth Bagwell who served as missionary of the Western North Carolina Baptist Assoeia ation from August. 1948. to April 14 of this year, left Saturday for Salisbury where she has accepted a position as missionary of the Rowan Assocfatilon. Her suocessor here has not yet been secured. Mies Bagwell, a graduate of Mam Hill College and Furman University, Greenville. S. C.. Is a native of Laurens. S. C. Prior to coming to this association, she tsught school in China Grove. Under her leadership, the asso ciational work has made great pro- ? gress. Lloyd W. Hendrix, chairman of the Missions Committee, states that it is with deep regret that the association accepted her resig- j nation. Many expressions of apprecia tion of her work were made, and she was honored at several showers and other events. Members of First Baptist Church honored her at a covered dish supper and shower Thursday evening. The ohurch presented her with a Sam sonite bag, and members gave in dividual gifts. Red Cross Lacks $1000 Of Quota Wm. N Bolton, chairman for the 1951 fund campaign of the Chero kee County Chapter of the Red Cross, states that only $1417 of the necessary $2412 quota has thus far been contributed. He urges anyone who has on hand any col 'ecled funds or those who have not yet made their donations to let him have the money at an early date. Jones Earl Corwin, < evangelist of Black Mountain, will preach at the Murphy Presbyte rian Church next Sunday morning a', llo'ciock. This serrvice will be the opening of the Spring Revival which will continue -through the week. "Doing a Great Walk" will be the topic of the morning sermon. Mr. Corwin will also preach at 7:20 p. m. Sunday on the subject. "In Your Home." The children and young people of the church and their friends are invited to meet with Mr. and Mrs. COrwin after school eaoh day next week for a period of wor ship and hymn singing. Those who attend will foe permitted to sing in the Junior Choir at the evening services if they desire. , On Monday evening at 7:30, Mr. Corwin will preach on the theme "Two Unes." The public is invited to attend all services. Mrs. Johnsie R Nunn left Satur day for a week in Raleigh attend ing the State Welfare cohference. Stores Asked To Close For Revival Services The Rev. Jones Earl Corwin of Black Mountain, an outstanding evangelistic preacher, will speak at Union Preaching service sponsored by the Baptist, Episcopal, Free Methodist, Methodist and Presby terian churches at the old Post Office building opposite Henry House Monday through Friday of next week. The services will begin promptly at 12:05 noon and last exactly thirty minutes. People working down town are urged to come in their working clothes. The mer chants are being asked to close their stores from 12 noon to 12:40 each day in order to let their em ployees attend the meetings. Special music will be provided by. .the various churched at caeh rervice. People of every faith, particu larly those who feel the need of spiritual guidance, are urged to attend /the meetings. "Come and Bring a Friend" is the slogan of this interdenominational revival campaign. ? Conference Leaders To Be At Institute On Monday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock a Vacation Church School Institute will be he|d at First Met hodist Church, Murphy. This is one of four such institutes to be held in the Waynestilla District The others will be at Franklin, Cullowhee, and Sylva. These in stitutes are sponsored by the Board of Education of the West- i ern North Carolina Conference of 1 The Methodist Church. The Murphy Institute will be for those persons in the Metho dist churches of Cherokee, Clay and Graham counties who will be helping in the Vacation Church Schools this summer, or those who are seeking additional help in teaching Sunday Sohool classes. W Hubbell, (Miss Hattie Axley and Mrs Evelyn Hoffman, .to desig nate those days for a general clean-up campaign.
