Catlhtbarg Drama Now In Production < "Chucky Jack", the new outdoor drama at Gatlinburg, Tenn., open ed its first season June 22 and will be produced nightly except Sun days, through Sept. 1. The drama, written by Dr. Her mit Hunter, author of "Unto These Hills" is being produced as a com panion piece to the Cherokee drama. "Chucky Jack" portrays the col orful career of John Sevier, at one time a great North Carolinian at the time he became a hero of the Colonial forces at the Battle of , King's Mountain, and who later became the first and only gover nor of the Lost State of Franklin, and still later, elected first and GARDEN TIME , Each kind of troe, ahrub or plant hu a bast time and method (or propagator It. We cannot Umum all of them here but there are a fair plants that are most mediae fully propagated at thie season of the year. For example, many gardeners In eastern North Carolina are growing evergreen apedee of azal ea*. Of ooaree, it la easy to pur chase azaleas from nurseries but that will take money and it ia not very difficult to grow your own If you are willing to glee them lame care. These stale? may be ?asBy propagated by cuttings tak sn from the plant In June or July, the cuttings should he made of the present* season'* wood, about four* Inches Isog, after tha base of the aeiw stem has become partially matured. The hast medium in which to loot azaleas is a mixture of half pure sand and half peat moas. mis material may be put in a ipecial frame or shallow box to a lepth of about six inches, in k. place where the frame can be ihaded and watered when necea Mry. The leaves should be strip led from the lower half of the cut ting, the basal end cut with a iharp knife, and dipped in rootone powder. Then cuttings are insert ed in the sand and peat mixture a bout half their length and firmed, rhey may be set close together in rows. Strict attention must be paid to shading and watering. In i few weeks roots will develop in most of the cuttings and they should be potted up or transplant ed to a cold frame where they can be protected until ready to set out In a permanent place. Rootone powder may be obtained at any large seed store. The peach is another plant that must be propagated at this time of the year. The peach will nbt come true to variety from seed, and therefore if you have any peach seedlings it is best to graft a known variety upon them. Since the peach cannot be grafted suc cessfully in winter like the apple, It must be budded during July or August. Contact your county agent it once for instructions or bule tins on building peach trees. Pecans are also budded at this time of year. A pecan does not come true to variety from seed.
