1 Finances, The Financial Condition Of The Town Is Excellent, By Far The Best In The History Of The Town Of Mnrphy. This Condition Is Dne To Economical And Efficient Management. Here Is The Record To Bate: (a) All current hills are fnlly paid. (b) General Fund Bank Acconnt: $27,786.27 (c) Bond Sinking Fund: . . $23,224.80 (d) Street Paving Fnnd: . .$ 4,953.81 Total Money On Hand $55,964.88 2. Parking Meters At a cost approximately $ 16,200.00, the Board installed two hundred forty (240) parking meters to improve parking and traffic conditions. These parking meters are now fully paid for. These meters have made Murphy a more progressive and businesslike town and in making this improvement, the Board has followed the large and more successful cities in our great state. In addition, they now have substantially increased the gross income of our Town. 3. ftew Water System ' The New Water System is 90% complete and already in operation. The W. B. Dillard Construction Company did the construction, including a New filter plant, a new reservoir ?on Hospital Hill, and a new filter system for the Fain Moun tain Reservoir. The new water system gives us: (a) Purer drinking water. (b) Superior Fire Prevention. (c) Stabilized pressure all over town. (d) Plenty of water at all times, even in periods of drought or machinery (pump) break downs. (e) Increased revenue to the town. (f) Sufficient water to supply NEW INDUSTRY. 4 Sidewalks During the past two years the Board has constructed 430 linear feet of new, attractive sidewalks. The improvements have been made for YOUR safety and to help beautify YOUR TOWN. 5. Reduced Town Debt The Town Board during the past twenty four months has paid $42,000.00 on the Town's indebtedness. The Town's current credit rating is now "very high". 6. Police Protection During its term of the past two years, your Board has provided twenty-four hour, "round-the-clock" police pro tection. Five policemen, a Police station, and a Squad car help make this protection possible. 7, Recreation Your Board has given its full support to the Summer Recreation Program, the Teenage Club, and all other organi zations which have attempted to provide additional recrea tional facilities for the children and citizens of Murphy. Full support was given to the Swimming Pool Project and Little League Baseball. Street Paving During the past two years your Board has made $20,000.00 worth of improvements in paving, widening, patch ing, re-surfacing and guttering the city streets. Here are the 12 streets which were newly paved (with the co-operation of the property owners.) : Willow Street 278 ft. Mauney Street 255 ft. Sales Street ? .278 ft. Blumenthal Street ....560 ft. Cherry Street ?187 ft. Spruce Street 448 ft. Wofford Street 200 ft. Westmoreland Street 700 ft. Boulevard Street ? 230 ft. Springdale Street 500 ft. Glenwood Street 685 ft. Copeland Street 90 ft. 9. New Water Lines The Board is proud of its accomplishments in this re spect. Through more efficient and economical management of the Town Government and its business, the Board has been able during the past twenty four months to install a total of 1422 feet of new water lines. The construction has been completed by the Town's own employees and the cost of these improvements is fully paid. 10. Public Library Approximately $5,450.00 has been given to our Public Library during the past two years. 11. Chamber Of Commerce Your Town Board has at all times given its support to the Murphy Chamber of Commerce and will continue to do so, believing that an active Chamber of Commerce is of tremendous benefit to the community. 12. New Sewer Lines The Board has installed 600 feet of new sewer lines, providing improved sanitary facilities for many families. 13. Garbage Collection With its modern LEACH GARBAGE COLLECTING UNIT, The Board has greatly improved and expanded its sanitary service. This has been done without any charge whatsoever to any citizen or ,any business. An additional truck is used to pick up brush, falling trees and other debris which cannot be collected by the new "pack-master" truck. 14. Garbage Dump The Board cordially invites you to visit its Garbage Dump, which is kept as clean and sanitary as modern ma chinery can keep it. All fresh garbage is mechanically compressed, dumped, burned, and then carefully buried or covered with earth by a bulldozer. The result is a clean and sanitary garbage dump. IS. Street Washing Your Board has washed your city streets periodically and with mechanical equipment for more than two years. This has resulted in a more beautiful town and a minimum of dust and dirt. 1C. Cemetery Maintained Continuing its policy of beautifying the three Town cemeteries, the Board has a full time employee whose sole duty is to keep the cemeteries neat and clean. Sunset Cemetery is being enlarged by one full acre. Experience ? Integrity ? Progress
