On Saturday, May 28, the Pembroke Jaycees sponsored a golf tournament with the proceeds going to the Robeson County Cancer Fund. The tournament was held at Riverside Country Club. Top prize winners were Mike Olson (1st place-low gross); Ray Brayboy (2nd place-low gross); Ed Davis (1st place-low net); and Blaine Oxendine (2nd place-low net). The Pembroke Jaycees would like to express their appreciation to all the merchants and businesses in Pembroke and the surrounding communities for donating the many prizes and helping make the tournament a success. Contributors were Hardin’s Backhoe and Dozer Service; Gilbert Bullard Backhoe and Septic Tank Service; Kelvin’s Hair Stylist; Service Oil Company; Carthage Road Sunoco; Chavis Electric; Pembroke Hardware; Pates Supply Company; University Sportswear; Cliffs Package Store; James Maynor Mobil Service; Pembroke Park and Shop Amaco Package Store; Riverside Country Club; Maynor’s Exxon; Maynor’s Texaco; Dial Insurance; Rudy’s Restaurant and Town and Country Restaurant. Welby Tofe Stricklond, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Roy Strickland celebroted his 6th birthdoy on Tuesday, June 7, 1977 ot his home on Route 3, Moxton, NC. Hot dogs, hamburgers, pototo chips, punch and a birthdoy cake baked by his mother were served to the following guests: Mr. and Mrs. Willard Strickland, his motemal grandparents, Mrs. Ruthie Strickland, his paternal grandmother, Audria, Anthony and Alisa Moynor, Jo Ellen Stricklond, Eric Strickland, Rena Stricklond. James ond Donnie Strickland, Eori Homer, Unell, Cheryi ond Jeff Stricklond, Peggy Lowry, Mrs. Sue Ann Moynor, Ms. Marie Stricklond, Johnny-Stricklond, Donno Scott his brothers and sister. Union Elementary Principal Honored Blood Pressure Clinic Held for Senior Citizens The Red Springs Neighborhood Service Center, operated by Four County Community Services, Inc. is supervised by Mrs. Madie Rae Locklear and Ms. Nazarene Wright. The center is located on Brown Avenue in Red Springs, N.C. and serves anyone living within the areas of Pembroke, Wakulla, Red Hill, Moss Neck, Philadelphus, Buie, Union Chapel, Prospect and Red Banks. One of the Center’s 13 components consist of a Senior Citizen group which is the Red Springs Senior Citizen Club. The Club meets every Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 1 i a.m. at the Red Springs Center. June 8th, 1977 watan exciting day for the senior citizens. Ms. Martha Creech and Ms. Blanch Hardee, Registered Nurses from Robeson County Public Health Department, Lumberton, N.C. visited the Center and checked all senior citizens’ blood pressures. The group consisted of forty senior citizen members. Out of the group, approximately 6 members needed special care. The Registered Nurses will be back within four to six weeks to make a foilow-up on the special care members. The group expressed their appreciation to the ladies for their concern for the elderly. Grady Oxendine, Principal of Union Elementary School holds the plaque which honored him os "Doss of the Year,” presented at o recent dinner meeting of the Robeson County Educotionoi Office Personnel.
