Road Death Toll Reaches 7 f-mn Sun MM W>rt ??nm \ Moke County died Monday night in a head on trash. bringing in seven the number -of people killed in North Carolina traffic accidents during the long Fourth of July weekend, according to the state Highway Patrol. The victim, was identified as George Maynor, 56. of Route I. Itaeford Trooper A J. Reason, who investigated the accident was also a witness. , Maynor was heading north on U S 401 about 5>4 miles north of Raeford when his car crossed the centerline and struck a tractor trailer rig head-on The truck driver was not injured. In other accidents, a Harnett County man died Sunday night in a motorcycle accident. Dierdra Lpng Thweatt. 39, of Route 3, Cameron, died when the car she was driving left a rural road 6 miles north of Southern Pines and struck a tree about 7:30 a.m. Sunday, the patrol said. Three of the fatalities occurred earlier in Robeson County. Connie Hayes Smith, 24, of Lumberton, was killed at 11:50 p.m .Saturday when tnc car she was driving along a rural road 10 miles south of her hometown hit a tree. David Taylor Zekonis. 20, and Paul William Zekonis, 63. both of Monroe, died Saturday morning on U.S. 71 in Robeson County when the car they were riding in was struck by another car driving left of the center line, state troopers said. Three people were injured in the accident eight miles west of Lumbcrton. Elsewhere, a motorcycle acci dent claimed the life of Howard Wayne Burkhart, 24, of Slale.sville The cycle he was riding Sunday afternoon on Allen Ford Road 6 miles west of Statesvillc went out of control and overturned several times. The enrollment was 299 with an average attendance of 287. Archie Oxendine, Director of VBS, expressed his appre ciation and gratitude for the tremendous team work and spirit of cooperation. "This was just a beautiful occasion at our church," he said.
