PAULS 738-8313 521-4130 865-5105 CLYBORN PINES PEMBROKE HIGHWAY Chicago Bulls & White Sox to be Seen on WGN Harrison Daniels, local System Manager for Alert Cable TV of Red Springs, Inc. announces jointly with United Video that superstar Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA) will air beginning in Novem ber on Chicago Superstation WGN. In addition, WGN will air the Chicago White Sox on WGN begin ning next March for the 1990 baseball season. The agreements with both teams are for five years. "Our customers may tune into WGN on cable channel 4," stated Mr. Daniels. Jeff Treeman, Senior Vice Presi dent of video services for United Video, which delivers WGN to cable systems nationwide, said the an nouncement is a boost to affiliates and viewers of WGN. "We expect a sharp rise in WGN"s already high cable viewership levels as a direct result of this new programming," said Treeman. "With the Bulls and White Sox on the schedule, WGN is raising the appeal of its program ming also to the point of being magnetic. By adding more sports, mostly in prime time, WGN is showing its commitment to original programming and to cable viewers nationwide," he said. The carriage of the White Sox by WGN means the superstation will have both the National League Chicago Cubs and the White Sox of the American League on its pro gramming schedule. Meanwhile, Jordan, America's most popular sports figure, is the leader of the Bulls, a perennial playoff-caliber team The agreement calls for 25 Bulls games to be aired during the 1989-90 NBA season, with 16 road games and nine at home, with -the first game scheduled for November 3. Forty-five White Sox games are scheduled, including three preseason games, for next baseball season, with a provision for 50 telecasts in future seasons. "We are pleased to be bringing the Bulls and White Sox to Chicago's premiere sports station," said Jerry Reinsdorf, White Sox and Bulls chairman. Eddie Einhom, President of the White Sox, added, "We are counting on WGN's outstanding production capabilities to capture the excitement of these two teams." WGN will also add University of Dlinois NCAA basketball beginning this season. This season the station is carrying 150 games of the Chicago Cubs under a contract that runs until 2010. Including the Bulls and Sox games , WGN will now broadcast more than 215 live sporting events, the most of any U.S. television station. WGN is delivered by United Video to 11,000 affiliates in 29 million cable homes in all 50 states.
