The world Is mak ing a Junk yard of the future proba bly because tho past Is so full of sin and blunder that It can contuln no more. Today we have (lermany deliv ering her old recitative that she cannot pay her reparations, and tho thing will go over to the "some tltno," Tho sec retary of the treasury and Congress are framing a meusuro under which payment of European debts to the Trilled Rtatos will theoretically occur. The humor of refunding a debt that csnnot be paid Is of the grim variety. Vet It will doubtless add to the gay ety of nations lo change tho paper on which the Indebtedness Is written. The world should always keep Its records in erlsp, fresh form. It will doubt -less bo found necessary to tnnke sev eral changee a century or two hence, Ho with the national debts and the currencies of continental Kurope. They have a ft rent liking for the future. In deed, broadly speaking, the perpeiuity nf national debts has tnese many years been a characteristic of Murneun. Huance. In our present toying with Impossi bilities and passing the in along to fu ture generations .there is great oppor tunity for sclent Itle discussion of finan cial affairs, which is a pleasuro to many, hut what will our descendants think of us (.Mi or lull years hence, bunding down, to ttiem such a lot of Junk 7 Our only defense will be that our forbears left to us ninny problems iind wicked cesses that we could not -master. POSSESSIONS OF BRITAIN LIKE U. S. PROHIBITION The Bahamas Enjoying Big Increase la Importation Of Whisky and Wine Bum Banners Busy. (Cssmtht, 1931. br PblUfl.iWiU rubor jdm.) London, Dec. 15. Why prohlblton In the United States Is so popular In the British possessions which lie close to the Amerloan coast la easily seen by the comparative figures of whisky and wine Imports for the Bahamas which have just become available. In 1919 the Bahamas Imported whisky worth 1215,000 and wine valued at 311,000. Figures for the 11 months of this year show whisky Imported has been worth more than 31,300,000 and wine above 390,000. The approximate value in excess of these figures upon reimportation to the .jl'nlteil States by rum runners is beyond I calculation. . "He Earns Most Who Saves Most Of His Earnings" The man who earns 310.00 a week and saves 31.00 a week Is really better off than he who earns 120.00 a week and spends It all.
