January ciosea at ze.us with th general market closing steady at a net advance of 13 to Si points. Th market opened brly Steady at a decline of 13 to 24 point under realising and selling for a reaction which wa encouraged by relatively easy cables and continued nervous ness over the Turkish situation. For a time the pressure appeared to b aggressive and active months showed het lossea of It to 13 point during the early trading, wllh December sell ing at 25. 7S and March at 25.4 7. Trade Interests were credited with buying on a scale down, however, and as soon as the selling slackened, prices turn ed firmer on a renewal of commission house demand, covering by recent seller or re-buylng. This wa doubt less promoted by rumors that private return Indicated domestlo consump tion of 581.000 bales for October com pared with 495.000 the previous month and 414,000 last year. There also were very bullish advices from the southern spot markets and when early selling attempted to cover, they found nothing mor than light offerings around the ring. As a result prices worked rapidly upward to 31.11 for December and 31.13 for March, with the general list showing advancea of 80 to II points from the early low level and of II to II point a compared with Saturday's closing figures. The volume of business then tapered oft and the market was rather quiet late In the day with last prices showing reactlona of 10 to II points. Sat. Onen. Hlrh. Low. Close. Cloae.
