It was a novel experience The leeaon was a review of six preceding; lessons which had covered the same number of week. The class met at I o'clock In the Municipal courtroom at the city hall and wu In aeaslon for an hour The pupils were 11 husky policemen and the teacher was Robert E. Pearce, cap tain of police. The student policemen Were alert and Interested. They stood when an swering a question. "Correct, sit down!" the teacher would say In nearly every case after propounding a query, for th policemen were usu ally quick with a come-back. Those cltlsen who think lice men doesn't have to do much but wins a stick and look wise should attend on of th police school classes sometime and have their Ideas reversed. The reported sat In the school last night and heard those student policemen glibly anwer questions that would stump the av erage citlien and In some Instances pussle a Well informed lawyer. Last night the class reviewed les sons on discipline and deportment, patrol duty, classification of crime, arrests, observation and felonies, and later discussed Informally a few of the many problems which continually arise to perplex the man who wears the uniform of authority. Many of the answers to the questions asked In police school are not theoretical. They offer to the policeman a cor rect solution to situations which arise on his beat every, hour of the day and night. How does th publlo get Its Im pression of the police departments" "From the individual members of the department." was the answer After stressing the Importance of obedience, loyalty and team work, the teacher asked what other attri butes besides those named, and a ro bust physique are necessary In a model policeman. The answer was, strength and character and moral courage sufficient to successfully re sist the temptation to do wrong. n..Hnn. ukti on the subject of crimes and criminals made one think of the musty tomes of the Illustrious Blaokstone snd of that other tower of l.nal knowledge.
