New Orlean. La.. Dec. 4. After session of rather rapid but narrow fluctuations the cotton market to day finally closed three points up to one point down, compered with the final quotations of Saturday. The close waa typical of a good part of the trading; It was nothing mora than a trading market from the atart Much of tha selling wa in th way of liquidation from the long Bide while buying was t!mujatd mainly by bullish ginning talk. Lowest price came In th early trading, and, according tn market comment, tired longs furnished the offerings. Weekly reports from cot ton goods market, Indicating some further slowing down of trade, were given the main hack of this sell ing. On this downturn, Janunry fell to 24.41 and the list lost 11 to 15 points. A fairly shxrp rally followed the rumor that a private bureau was cut with ginning returns to December 1 of 1,125.000 btle? anl the advance was auatatned for some time. Trices toward noon standing 10' to 18 points higher than the finals of Saturday. This ripe carried January to 24.68 and It was at this stage that the highest levels of the -flay were reached. Following this upturn the market ran into a number of ginning rumors, one being that the upturn lo Decerrber first was 9,450.000 bsles and prices sagged and recovered, as sentiment was swayed. The tone was rainy steady in the late trading. Open High I,ow ft Alton 3s ni. ft Alton 8s Chi., Burl, ft Qulncv ref. 6s A. Chi. ft Eastern Illinois 5s Chi. Great Western 4s Chi.. The market was small, steady affair today with both nldes apparently walling for sotnf.tlilnK new o develop lo stimu late either buying or selling. Ring traders were generally Inclined to the side but possibility of a crop estimate or ginning forecast that might bring on a flurry of buying deferred them from selling. The general feeling I" that values are likely to sag some further between now and the. bureau, owing to the tendency to raise crop lde. Slack spot demand lull U the dry goods market and possibility of a deadlock at the Lausanne conference tend to discourage speculative buying at the moment. We do not expect the market to do much either way for a time un less the ginning forecast turn out to b well under expeditions. FENNER AND BEANE. Acme Spinning Co. ...
