CORN AND OATS STEADY Chicago, Deo. 11. Expectanoe of a eold wave likely to endanger much of the winter orop rallied the wheat market today In the face of heavy profit-taking sales on tha part of -tha holdera. The oloee was unset tied at one cent net deollne to a like advance,; with May l.JO1.20 and July 1.10 ffl.10. Corn finished Ho off to o up. Oats unchanged to 1- cents higher, and provisions varying from 2 centi decline to 17 cents gain. With all deliveries of wheat today touching a new high price record for the season, and with ISvefDOol QUOta.- tlons falling to reflect fully tha ad vances scored Saturday on this ald of ths Atlantic many bulla deolded that the time was opportune to turn their contracts into cash. Tha large volume of selling which resulted met with persistent buying based appar ently on proposed legislation to su thorlse credits to farmers snd ex porters, It was only, however, after. Issuance of an official forecast of widespread sero weather that bulla regained much advantage, - Although the outlook pointed to snow preceding The cold wave possi bility existed that large areas might be caught without sufficient protec tion and that serious orop damage would ensue. Buying which this chance Induced was .chiefly In the July delivery. On the other hand, slowness of export trade tended some what to cool the enthusiasm , of would-be purchasers and caused ths market to have a two-sided aspect when the session cams to an end. Corn and oats like wheat reacned new too record prices for the season. and then encountered heavy selling due In soma degree to liberal receipts of corn here. Demand, though, for eorn was good. While tho cotton market stood at pet advances throughout the session today, the chaifges on the close wss narrow, the trading nosltlons being, only 4 to I points higher than the closing quotations of last week. January closed st 24 61 after having at one time sold aa high as 4. 86. Much of the demand appeared to come from covering shorts, who were evening up over the government estimate or the crop tonorrow, Mut lit .he late trading liquidation of the long In terest was mainly responsible lor the paring down of the gains. The opening was higher, in sym pathy with better prlcea than due from Liverpool, and the opening rise appeared to stimulate covering hy shorts. Early gains amounted to 20 to fjv points. Highest prices were rearlSM before the noon hour, the trading months at their beet being 26 to 10 points up. The strength of sterling exchange snd private crop estimates, well under ten million bales, were responsible for the sus tained steadiness. In the afternoon there was a grad ual sag from the highest, although a private bureau estimate of 641,000 bales as the consumption of Amer ican mills during November, against 633,950 during October, caused fav orable comment and keRt the market steady as it fell off. In the first half of the session there wss ' marked scarcity of contracts, but in the after noon there was less demand while offerings were more liberal because of the liquidation by longs. Open.
