College Will Include Noted Leaders "Freedom • Respondbllity" will be the theme of the 19th annual Coed Weekend at North Carolina College, March 15,16 and 17. The weekend will begin at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 16, with coffee and conversation hours in four locations on the campus. Speakers for these events will be Mias Marie C. Barksdaie, deputy director, Na tional Association of Commu-, nity Developers, Washington, D. C.; Miss Ruth Harvey, attor ney-at-law, Danville, Va.; Dr. Annabeiie Sherman, dean, achool of home economics, South Carolina State Colleges, Orangeburg, S. C.; Dr. Sylvia Lyons Render, professor of English, NCC; and Miss Amee da Hazell, former consultant to the Ford Foundation and attomey-at-law, Philadelphia. Speakers for the Saturday morning session, at 10 o'clock in B. N. Duke Auditorium, will be Mrs. Robert Clayton, president, National Young men's Christian Association and Mrs. Elizabeth Koontz, president, National Education Association. Miss Barksdaie, Dr. Sher man, and Miss Hester W. Price, assistant dean of women, NCC, will pose questions for the main speakers. Decision By Appeals Court Jolts Powell WASHINGTON -T#" U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that former Rep. Adam Clay ton' Powell cannot challenge his ouster in the federal courts. The decision, upholding a district court ruling, was unanimous and amounted to another setback for the belea guered Harlem Democrat. Powell was excluded from the 90th Congress March 1, 1967, by vote of his former colleagues. His congressional seat has remained vacant ■peQding his effort to over throw the action. The appeals court said Wednesday it could not help him. WHILE ruling that the 59- year-old Powell could not ask the ccmrts to change an action taken by the legislative branch, the appeals panel in effect conceded that the House may have erred in refusing to seat him. "That each branch may thus occasionally make errors for which there may be no effec tive remedy is one of the prices we pay for this inde pendence.
