DEATHS AND FUNERALS Funeral for Mrs. Lillian Gibbs Midgette Held Wed., Dec. 4 Funeral services were held . for Mrs. Lillian Gibbs Midgette ; at Saint Joseph's AME Church, Wednesday, December 4, at 3:30 p.m. The eulogy was de livered by Rev. Lorenzo A. Lynch, pastor of White Rock Baptist Church. i Mrs. Midgette was born in Merritt, North Carolina and re ceived most of her education in the public schools of Pamli co County. Post graduation work was completed at E. N. C. I. Academy in New Bern. She was a licensed practical nurse. The family moved to Durham in 1924, and shortly thereafter she became affiliated with White Rock Church, where she served as a loyal and faithful member as. long as her health permitted At White Rock, she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Gospel Chorus, a deaconess, a member of the Philathea and presi dent of the White Rock Mission Circles, a position she held un til her death She was also a member of the Junior Daugh ters of Dorcas Club. Midgette; two daughters, Mrs. Irene Cary and Mrs. Callie Harris; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Strong of Brooklyn, New York and Mrs. Nora Best of New Bern; one brother, Albert Style of New Bern, ten grandchildren and eleven great grand chil dren. BEVERLY BRAXTON JOHNSON Funeral services for Mrs. Beverly Braxton Johnson were held Sunday, December 8, at Saint Joseph'! AME Z1 on Church. The services were of ficiated by Rev. Lorenzo A. Lynch, pastor of White Rock Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson was a 1955 graduate of Hillside High School. Following her gradua tion, she engaged in a two year tour of duty with the Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. In April of 1957, she received employment with the U.S. Navy Finance Center, Cleveland, 0. At the time of her death, she was a U. S. Postal Employee, Cleveland, Ohio. Survivors include her hus- AME Laymen Meet at Kittrell The Laymen of the Second Episcopal District, composing Western North Carolina, Vir ginia, Baltimore and Washing ton Conferences, convened in a one day meeting December 7. The agenda was composed of planning, discussing the pro gram for the ensuing year. Founder's Day will be held February 7, 1989 at Waahing ton, D. C. The General Board of the AME Church will be in band, Frank Johnson; step mother, Mrs. Elma Braxton; father, William Braxton; one brother, William Braxton, Jr.; two half sisters, Mrs Gladys Strudwick and Miss Emma Bratxon and a number of other relatives and friends. Interment was in Beechwood Cemetery. Norfolk, Virginia in February 1969 The highlight of the meeting was the focus of tremendous growth of the Kittrell College physical plant, notably a library and class room building, which compares favorably with any college. Dr. Larnie G. Horton and staff deserve the plaudits of the entire A.M.E Connec tion for the untiring and de voted service given to Kittrell College. The Kittrell Commu nity has pledged to donate $30,- 000 in behalf of Kittrell Col lege When a communion of forces, shared efforts respond to a common endeavor, for the good of the community, it is a vital force in democracy. SATURDAY, DEC. 14, 1968 THE CAROLINA TIMES—' Annual Yuletide Program Scheduled For Hawley School The annual Christmas pro gram of the Hawley School will be presented Thursday, December 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the gymtorium. "Christmas in Review," by Clarence J. Styza, is an outsanding Christmas pro gram containing alf of the tri ditional ideas of the season. The High School. Choir with Meriam Lyons, Ary Jane Scott, and Christa Harding as soloists, under the direction of E. N. Riddick, will set the tempo for the entire program. Cora Wright is cast as the Narrator; Tarqueenia Cooper as Mary; Ronald Braswell 'as John; Patricia Mitchell as Nan cy; and Margaret Timberlake as the poetess. Fixed charact ers include: Lester Thomas, Ronald Green, Larry Williams, James Daniel, Clarence Brid - ge!, Oth* Sneed, Genate John ton, Susie Sanford, Wayne Joy ner, and Brinkley Faulcon. This year's program is nnder the direction of Mrs. E. W- Co*. There is no admission* charge. The public is invited to attend.
