The quake caused two huge bridges to tremble, jolted residents out of bed and touched off a rash of calls to news media and pdfeae and fire switchboards at City Hall, itself shaken Hy the tremblor. "It set off the music box In my bedroom," said Mrs. Florence Mallory of center-city. "The quake was centered very close to our seismograph at the (Franklin) Institute," said Dr. I.M. Levitt, director of the institute's Fels Planetarium- Police said frightened res idents sought information on what they ascribed as a "boom," "clap of thunder" of a "rumble." Authorities said the temblor caused minor damage. Millions apparently slept through the earth shock. Toll booths on both the Benjamin Franklin and Walt Whitman bridges trembled when the earthquake occurred at 4:13 a.m. est, but no damage was reported to the spans linking the city to New Jersey.
