The target is $100 million in loans per quarter for women, made by banks across the U. S. with the Federal Government guaran tee. Seminars have been held forbank officials and in - terested women in its dis-. trict offices at these seminars women heard discussion on personal qualifications, financing a business, sources of capital, forms of records, resources locally available, consumer and business rela tions. ' The SBA is going to have a new look internally, with a strong stress on the. appoint-;--ment . and ' promotion of women and externally, with a , strong definitive program to encourage business ownership . by women. A pilot program will be developed in a selected area where women already have experience and , the leap' -to .ownership position is not great. , Retired business volun teers and active executives will ' provide counseling on management and on training managers. The SBA will in crease its number of women loan officers and supervisory officers . to provide more sensibility to the problems women face in business. . Over the longer - term, the strategy of the small busi ness administration will be keyed to the development of specific programs.:. . Under SBA's regular loan program, credit can be provided up to $500,000.; The need, the challenge, the long history of discrimination and ignorance are dramatized by these statistics: . - Women make , up 51 J per cent of our national population,; they own only 4.6 per ; cent of the busR ness; . ,- . , .
