Getting ready for the big
move? A good rule of thumb
is to wash, scrub, dust, polish

packing. There is enough to
do in a new house without

often painted about the,
Durham City schools, he
is optimistic about the.
schools, and believes that
newcomers to the Triange
area will no longer be
. reluctant to move to
Durham because of past
adverse publicity that the
city schools have received
; in the media.
"I am happy to see that
no elementary school was
closed last fall, and there'

the city," Rodenhizer
said.
Many of Durham's
residents, especially the
poor, elderly and
minorities, have expressed
before the council their
dissatisfaction with the
positions taken by the ma
jority of the council on
several issues. Some of
these issues are the East
West Expressway, the St.
Theresa Development
plan, the rescinding of the
policy on utility rate in
creases, the proposed bus
fare hike, the Durham
Housing Authority and
the earlier plan to
reorganize the city's Affir

Mrs. Edna Walker, the
-program director, said
that the rationale behind
the program is the belief
that these children needed
a good start.
Mrs. Josephine D. Cle

chairman, said after view
ing the program, that she
was convinced that small
children can learn a lot
more - than most people
believe.
Four-year-olds in the
program from Lakewood
Elementary School recited
a poem from memory by
Langston Hughes and
sang the first stanza of the
"Life Every Voice and

The program grew out
of the Magnet School
Study of several years ago.
It also functions at East
End School.
The school board also
passed a motion to change
its regular April 13
meeting to April 6 because
several board members
will be attending a profes

at that time.
