Hardy Solomon Arretted for Fraud- Released 'on $20,000 Bail. New Yoek, Aug. 29. Hardy Solo mon, late President of the South Caro lina Bank, of Columbia, has been arrested on the complaint of ex-Gov. Robt K Scott, of South Carolina. The charges, are fraudulent management of the Bank, to place his money be yond the reach of creditors, and con vert the loans of bonds to his own use. Special Agents of the Treasury Re tainedCameron and Sherman on a Tour of Inspection National Bank Securities. Washington, D C, Aug. 29. Chand ler returns to-morrow. Cameron will be here a few days after the 1st of September. Cornell, Chairman of tha New York State Republican Committee In tense Excitement and Great Con fusion Among Coal Dealers. New York, Aug. 29. The Republi can Mate uentral Committee organi zed with A B Cornell as Chairman. A great coal eale took place to-day, and an immense amount was sold. rices trembled from 100 to 200 per ton on all trades. The excitement at the offices of coal dealers down town is ntenee ; scarcely any dealer is alone; consultations and conferences are lolding in almost every office. Never before has there been so much interest taken in the price of coal. Mr. Sam'l, Sloan, President of the Delaware and Lockawana Company, eaid prices ob tained are much lower than expected. but they are a peace offering to the public. A S Sword said that the object of coal combination had been to diminish the supply by taking measures to pre vent overstocking of the market, but that now the same effect had been brought about. Production would be stopped, because coal could not be gotten out of mined and delivered at the present prices. Other retail deal ersjexpre8sed similar opinions, and while acknowledging that the price of coal would come down, added that it could not keep down, because it could not be supplied at these rates. FOREIGN. Turko-Serri&n .War Conference of Great Powers Germany Backward Turkish Seat. London, Aug 29. A dispatch to the Telegraph from Vienna says: "The great powers are constantly interchang ing telegrams concerning the proposed mediation. A general agreement has been reached touching principal fea tures of policy to be adopted, but the details are unsettled Germany is the most backward f the powers and it is beleired that great difficulty will be expeerienced in determining steps, but several days will probably elapse be fore the powers submit their propo sal." The Pall Mall Gazette's Berlin spe cial says that Austria will be invited aeain to take initiative steps in sub mitting mediatory proposals to Tup key. Negotiations commenced by guaranteeing the powers that are for the present restricted exclusively to obtaining the suspension of hostilities, Great divergencies of opinion are fear ed when the details are discussed. The conference is considered the only means of adjusting them. Belgrade, Aug, 29, Official advices state that the Turks attacked the Ser vian left on Monday, but were repul sed with heavy loss left killed, and a large quantity of arms and ammtini tion on the field.
