The-iNeW Englander will be most drawh ta Mecfctenburgi Gaston or Iredell counties;: The surtace is undu- lating and dharmingLy! diversified. , The country ia well timbered, and no bet- ter waTer-tastelees-c&n be found in tbe Uriited States.' ; Tbe section ia well watered by rivers and brooks while pure springs are abundant and unfail ing. Here ia the best opening, for the farmer tf-semey though small meang, that this Wide land' affords. Here are mammoth plantations waitiLg to be cut up ' at prices -'from $3 to $23 per acre, and on-taibst generous terms. I. am not aware that any of these lands. are in the hands of speculators. The actual owners hold them and legitimate brokers offer them for sale. The widest range of crops are cultivated and every thing save the extreme tropical fruits is profitably raised. Of course the agricultural interests of this section share in the general depression of the whole country, but the small farmers are making money, and these' whom I visited' are doine better than those tif'a like grade, Easf arid West. ' Enterprising men are showing the farm ; "possibilities of this charming country, rbeheve that the finest farm I ever rooked upon is that of J W Wadsworth in the suburbs of Charlotte in Mecklenburg county. His cotton fields dre superbi while grasses, vegeta bles; applet, grapeB, peaches ; and the whole range of production gladden the appreciativeieye. It ia true that Buch farms as his are1 rare, but the soil is there, only waiting a little capital and skill to develop it into a wonderful pro ductiveness. : Money is to be made whe n the great ante-war plantations are cut up and properly tilled. Two men from I'ennsylvania, three years ago, bought a farm lor $10,000. They had only $3,00( between them . " They hkve just made-the last payment and own the fine plantation clear. Labor is abundant and cheap, as I "shall show in another article.- ' 1 :. n r. The farmer of central Noith Carolina can realize three crops per year with proper care, and with ease can secure an excellent crop of corn after the wheat is harvested. This ltud will not produce quite so much to the acre as some of the best western tillage, but other elements combine to ensure the North Carolina farmer a greater profit from his outlay. The land here-iwill yield a fair crop without manure. but the soil responds most generously to fertilizers, and is of such a character as to hold the manure near the surface. If out- dissatisfied and unprosperous farmers ' would grou p" iu little com munities, or even go out in single families. therwou!d find in Mecklen- rXifg; Iredell r'Gaslon'cOaaties, in the Uld JNorth state, happy homes and pre sperous farm ing' . v: .::;'..: A Card. : i .v To all who are suffering from the errors and indiscretions of vonth. nervousi weak ness, early decay, loss of manhood: &6., T will send a receipt that will cure you, FftEE UHAKUlfi.
