The Episcopal Sunday school had a very enjoyable picnic at Bellemant spring yesterday. They were carried out on the Carolina. Central train by Capt T. T. Smith, and in the afternoon the train returned and carried the parjsyi down to Matthews' Station, returning and landing them safely at home about sundown. The coroner held an inquest yester day over the body of the colored boy who was shot by Laura Torrence, cV ' ored, near the Junction, day before yes terday afternoon, and after a thorough examination of the case exculpated: the woman. She is said to have been quite fond of the child and is in great dis tress. King;' mountain Mine Doing; God Work. Mr. W. A. Stanton, who recently suc ceeded Mr. Arthur Macy, as superinten dent of the King's Mountain mine, was in.the city yesterday afternoon, and brought with him 214 ounces of amal gam which is to be separated at the asr say 'office. This was taken from a cleaning up alter a run oi loi nours. The mine is now working 100 hands and is doings better than it has done for several years, a ncn vein naving re cently been struck in the new works. It is already one of the most thorough ly equipped mines in- the country, and works a torty-stamp mm., as is, wen known, the mine is owned by a compa ny in Pennsylvania, of wnicn ex-uov. Curtin, of that State, is president. The Presby terian General Assembly voted a sub stitute on the matter. of the. church de liverances declaring that nothing is law, to be enforced by' judicial process, but that which is contained in the word as interpreted in the Church Courts dif fer from them in these deliverances in that the former determine, and where the proceeding from the highest court conclude, a particular case, but both are alike interpretations of the word of the Church constitution, and must be sub mitted to, unless contrary to the word and constitution, of which there is a right of private judgment belonging to every Church Court, and also to every individual church member.
