Greensboro, ept. 20. There was n conference between about 20 Greensboro lovers of hunting here last night over a plan to purchase 15.000 or 20,000 acres of land in Dare county, for a hunting preserve. A committee was selected to visit the coast counties, and ascertain tke prospects. A warranjt' was Issued this morning Mgalnst F. Hi McCaffey, book-keeper for B. Fire at tjfe Ice and Coal Company plAnt yesterday damaged the building about S00, tjle loss being fully covered by insurance The engine was not dam aged, and the factory is running this tnornlng. When the fire was discover ed the whole roof was ablaze, and the Are companies did much excellent work tin saving the property. Mr. V. M. Thompson, proprietor of the plant, pre sented the fire department with a check lfor 50 and Mr. W. D. McAdoo, owner of the adjoining: building occupied by the Armour Packing plant gave them cJw.ck for $25. A VALUABLE PATENT. Dr. R. K. Gregory, of Greensboro, has applied for letters patent on a new electrical fire alarm for hotels., A dry cell battery Is placed in the office of the hotel and connected with every sleeping room by wire. This wire is connected with an alarm gun, which Is loaded w;lth a blank fulminate of silver -artridge, which explodes on turning on the current from the office. The ex plosion starts a gong to ringing and also Illuminates every room as the cur rent of electricity passes over the wires. A ouch of the button In the office, fires guns, rings gongs and lights up the whole building. The whole apparatus will not cost over $! per room, and it would appear, ought to wake up every body In the building or in the city. The bonrd of managers of the North Carolina Heunion Association, have de cided to postpone the second re-unlon of native North Carolinians until next year. One of the chief reasons given for the postponement is that this is a political yeurand many prominent men who would be glad to attend will be pre vented from so doing on account of the fall election, and engagements at home prior thereto. SUPERIOR COURT. Judge Bryan began a two weeks' term of Superior Court here yesterday for the trial of civil causes only. There were no jury trials yesterday. Two Im portant cases were settled, one being I me case or J'hlegar against Mendenhall Involving title to what is known as lawyers, row, and whic h has been tried several times, the Jury failing to agree each time. It is understood that the defendants have agreed to pay the plaintiff $2,200 and retain title to the property, which . is .nejtt to the court liojus and very valuable, ' The . Southern ' Railway Company, withdrew Its appeal in the case of the Corporation Commission and the Greensboro Ice and Coal Company, pay ing costs of the case. The commission had ordered the railroad company to furnish cars to the coal company on its ide tracks. Instead of fighting the case In the State courts, the railroad has obtained an order from the Federal Court restraining the commission from enforcing its rule, and will have the case tried and tested in the Federal Court. Judge Bryan this morning continued the order granted by Judge Shaw re straining W. F. Clegg from operating Ji restaurant and cafe in th nit-ri Hotel building. These pat terns are of it design so fur superior io anything that we have heretofore been able to get from other makers that we nre not only sfitlsfled but ,.!. .v,,j with the results of our efforts. ll our hangers nre of very superior Iei-iKii- They lire entirely ii'-wr and we have put in th'-m the best features of what was already on the market, and lhave put in Ihem alwn some features ' vvl11' h n"r lo"K ezjieriente has brought to our Knowledge. we nti'i mat in designing new pHl'erns our contract with the erection of machinery puts ii In poslt'on to Introduce many new features. It Is Just os easy to make tiie hanger so that shafting may be easily put up end taken down as It Is lo so design them an to make them difficult. We make all our bearings, self-olllng. This Is a valuable feature. Who could deny that It Is better to put , ufflcient oil In a hollow ba.se of a bearing to last six months and then ' not be bothered about It again, than i to have the old way of squirting oil; on It every two or three hours and besides the trouble, generally having a ! mens also. By 'careful oiling of our , bearings once In three to six months, ! according to the work, we get the very best results and we never have a sloppy mens of oil on tho floor or on the machinery or on tho cloth or whatever else we are making.
