A water tank of 11.000 gallon, rapacity collapsed at the factory of a local table and man tel company yesterday. The cause of the destruction of the tank was In secure framework that held up the tank. It fell a distance of 40 feet to the ground, causing a tremendous crash i hut startled the people near the factory. No one was hurt, and the only property damuge waa the destruction of the tank. It will be re built. The rase against Will Mangum, charged with shooting I. H. Hudson and two others, who were acting dis orderly In his yard, which was to have been tried before 'Squire Col lins to-day, waa continued until next Tuesday on account of the absence of Important witnesses. To the Editor of The Observer: On July 3d a communication waa sent to The Ashevllle Gasette-News by the correspondent of that paper at Hutherfordton, stating:' "Mr. Butler A. Justice, a young attorney of thl place and a son of Judge M. H. Justice, who haa heretofore been an active and aggressive Democrat, arose and In stentorian tones addresed tho convention. No doubt this Is a surprise to Democrats as well aa Re publlcana." The convention referred to was the Republican congressional and Judicial convention, wlilcli met In Hutherfordton July 3d. In fact. 1 am not cognisant of my rela tions with the Republican party at tlie present time. 1 can't see how one of my Democratic friends could sup pose for u moment that 1 had desert ed the old ship, for I have been a Democrat since I could vote and ex pect to remain so as long as 1 can vote and remain In my right mind. The new de pot at Tryon Is nearlng completion and, when finlahed. will bo quite an acquisition to railroad accommoda tions for that place. The new crop of grapes Is now be ginning to be put on the market. The quantity is short but the quality Is fine. The Jail at this place is being fur nished with new window sash and glass In the upper story. Mr. W. E. Hill Is doing the carpenter work.
