DUNN'S WEEKLY TRADE REVIEW Reports Irregular on Account of Vary ing Temperature snow Blockades Check Improvement In Traffic Situ ation Manufacturing Returns Could Well Not be More Favorable,, New York. Jan. 18. R. O. Dun A Co.'s weekly review of trade to-morrow will say: Trade in winter fabrics Improved as the weather became more seasonable. but reports for the week are mqst irreg ular on account or varying temperature. Improvement In the traffic situation was checked by snow blockades. Clearance sales have made good progress, and new business tor spring delivery is coining to Jobbers and wholesale housa in large volume, while collections show some Im provement, although still slow In mnny lines. Manufacturing returns could not wen oe more tnvorame, contracts in many cases covering deliveries Into 1908, while st some steel and cotton mills or ders sre not accepted for shipment dur. Ing the first half of 1907. A few labor disputes are In progress, but wage-earners are fully employed, and several lib eral advances In pay were announced during the week In prominent Industries. Consumption of pig Iron exceeds produc tion, despite the greatest. rate of domes tic cutout ever, recorded, as attested by the heavy Imports without any depres sing effect on quotations. High prices still prevail In primary markets for cotton goods, yet the ele ment or speculation is not conspicuous, many lines being In a position where no severe reaction Is to b feared. Thus far few cancellations have occurred and manufacturers are strengthening the situation by connervatlvely declining or ders that appear to be largely of a spec ulative nature. Thsre Is also a disposi tion to distribute sains among numerous buyers, so that the risk with any single customer may ba mlnlmlsad. A little more export business with China has been accomplished, but the total I still imnll. As to woolens, men's wesr miycrs operate cautiously and tne opening of more new lines has attracted little sttcntlon. New York Produce. New Tork, Jan. 11 Flour stead. Rye flour atilet. New York,, Jan, 18.-Clouds of depres sion gathered ever the stock market to day and the weakness, which lia been spetty and Intermittent hitherto, became general and .aoute. ; This wast a result rather , Of , a crystallxatlon of sentiment on current topics of dleousston than of any Important factor In the situation. Moreover, It became very evident that largo activities were traceable to a pro fessional party of operators on the bear side of .-the market This party showed every evidence" of skilful organisation and aggressive leadership.
