Special to Th Observer. Reldvllle, March 29. The charterer cf the Rockingham ft Caawell Railroad Co. held a meeting here this afternoon in the room of the Young Men' Busi ness Association. A number of cltliens were also present who manifested much Interest In the proposed enterprise. Sen ator R. D. Reld explained the provision of the charter. He stated that he and Representative Johnston, of Caawell, hnvlng een the matter of the railroad through Rockingham and Caswell coun ties discussed for the past 18 months, decided to secure the charter for the road. Hoi explained the manner In which they secured the passage of the till carrying with It State aid In the use of the convicts whom the State Is to clothe and maintain, receiving there- fur stock in the road to the amount of the work done by them. Senator Reld outlined a plan for or ganizing, and Impressed upon the char terers present the Importance of getting to work at once. Mr, Olldewell requested Prof. Haye to address the meeting and explain the Information which ha had as a result of the Investigation which was made las' summer along tho proposed route from Reldsvllle to Yanceyvllle. Prof. Hnyea said that an optical sur vey of the route had been made by an expert and that the cost of building and equipping of tho Zl mllea of road for first-class stenm service would cost ap proximately $125,000, Including the cost of the machinery und all thing neces sary for the construction work. The right-of-way, he said, hud already been given and Is now In his possession. He than estimated that the 100 convicts to be furnished by the 8tate would be worth to the road at tho least estimate $150.00 per day. Excitement on High Point's Main Street In Which Two By- itandera Are Injured a B unities Change. Special to Th Observer. High Point. March 29. A horse "throwing" fit created a great deal of excitement last night on South Main street and also caused two by stander to get painfully injured. The "daffy" animal also dla damage to the amount of several dollars. Start ing on South Main street while hitch ed to a buggy the horse began to plunge and fall In the shafts. Bob Myers, owner of the horse, got out of the buggy and got the animal loose and from then on the dickens was to pay. The horse ran into the front door of Mattocks Bros. Btore and with great difficulty was gotten out. His next caper was across the street to the People's House Furnishing Com pany, where he rammed his nose into one of the plate glass windows and Jarred off a lot of crockery and break ing It Into smltheren.s but, strange to nay, the window glass was not dam aged. While the horse waa plunging In this direction the crowd went pell mell to places of safety. Mr. TJhos. Shelton fell down a cellar door and seriously injured himself in the head and a Mr. Vaughn had his arm badly hurt. The horse was finally gotten away after two hours' work.
