New Tork, April. 11 The Inertia of the stock market -proved too great to-day to . overcome and the board room' brokers were dispose to abandon the attempt comparatively early In the day. The ap - proach of a double or triple holiday is likely to have this effect on the market. The arrest of the demoralised break., in the cotton "market had some effect ol re lief In Wall Street, where the slump yes terday was accompanied by rumors of ' collateral effects nearer the stock es ohasge.' The weekly review of weather conditions by the weather bureau offered nothing unfavorable regarding the crops that has not been . previously discussed and with corresponding effect on prices, Surprise Is felt among New Tork bark ers that the Secretary of the Treasury has not Issued a can tor wunurawai oi additional government deposits, owing to the growing plethora of money st this centre and the known needs of the Treas ury. It Is thought highly probable that this expected call would issue on the actual movement of any gold out of New Tork to a foreign destination. This pros pect may have accounted for a slight hardening In the time money mantel to day, although this was 'not accompanied by any active Increase In the demand for loans. - Bonds were irregular and very dull. The . liquidations continued to-day, but from more general sources. The decline In Liverpool were foreshadowed by the telegrams of yester day, and at our opening the market showed soma slight selling power at the lower figures then ruling. Trading wag ' light durteg the forenoon, but later free offering!! 'made a low level, from which, at the close, there was a slight rally on belated orders. Prices are, or wduld be, inviting were there any speculative ac tivity beyond that of the local trade. Spot cotton in the South, is well held de spite the short time in some mills and the closing of otJiers. The supply appears to be less than, the demand. 'New Orleans Cotton. , New Orleans, April 14. Cotton, spots were easy, 1-ltic. down on all grades. Middling 104; sales were 1,420 bales on the spot and 150 to arrive. Futures opened steady, 3 to 7 point! below the close yesterday, as a result of an unfavorable Liverpool, Soon after the opening futures were steadied by the disposition of shorts to accept profits In anticipation of bad weather in the belt. The market was narrow and fluctuations barely covered 10 points. The dullness In the spot market with lower prices served aa a- bearish factor In the future market. "The manufacturers are becoming alarmed over the low prices of eipot cotton at the end of the selling sea sen, when they purchased the bulk of the crop at much higher levels. Let no cotton bo sold at present prices. Tie up the movement abso lutely, and thereby fore the market hljfher. The hankers everywhere will lend their aid and co-operation. I cannot too freely emphaslxo again the Imperative importance of cutting down the cotton acreage and pre venting a serious crisis next winter." WILD HORSES NOT CAPTURED. Ijcadrrs So Wary Tlutt Tliry Oct Their Rands Away From Hunt ers. Denver Republican. Several efforts have been mado to capture three bands of wild horses feeding in the neighborhood of Kit Carson. Among the group thai runs' wild about twenty inlls t.orth of the town are said to be a powerful horse and an equally handsome mare that would make a team worth about 1406. A huge sorrel stallion with a blase face, a tall that' reaches to the ground and a heavy, flowing mane is the leader of the band and is said to be so wary that up to date all attempts to run down any me Tiber of the group has resulted in failure. When a man appears on the horl xon the stallion sounds the alarm and starts the band off In the other dtrec tion, led by a small roan broncho. Tae stallion himself brings up the rear, snapping at the marei to make them run faster, and If too hard pushed he will stride off by h lintel f. The country whero this band roams is known as the Little ana uig (Springs section, and the Xurnu-rs In that vlcln ity are watching tiflr own horses closely to keep them from Joining the wild herd.
