CARD FROM MR. MM NCR. Explains Ills PtMltlon on Tax Agita tion During Ilia Administration as Mayor of the, City. To the Voters of Mecklenburg County: A report Is being circulated by soma' of my political enemies that I seek - to' be State Senator for our county for th purpose of breaking up the road tax system as now In ooeratlon bv having the tax relations between the city and county re-4 adjusted. This is absolutely untrue. When 1 was mayor of the city . I asked that the taxes of the farmers outside of Charlotte . be reduced so that the city could Increase its tax rate by such an amount as the county rate was to be reduced, thereby glv Ing more tax for the city without making the taxes paid by Charlotte citlaens greater. Thla was refused by the county commissioners at that time, but has been done by them of their own accord 'during the past week end Js fully satisfactory to me Tn every way, although It came" tr late to help my administration of th city's affairs. TVhst Iasked and contended for meant a reduction of tb,e tax rate of th cltlsens living outside of Charlotte, and no increase on th cltlsens of Charlotte; surely this will not be charged up' against me. Also there I a report that I am trying to break up the school funds of th county In the Interest of Charlotte, which Is absolutely un true. - - .- .-. . Tours truly. '' . ;. B. 8.
