Sept. 17. About fifteen years ago Harrison Blankenship and . Ham Waters, of Ashe county, swapped wives. Blankenship was a Baptist preacher and Waters was a deacon. They were both members of Houth Fork Baptist church. They both were . excluded without parley. Blanken ship eloped with Waters' wife and Btankenshlp's wife sued for and ob tained a divorce. Blankenship some time after the swap was asked how It came about that he and Waters made this swap. II said when they were married they made a mistake nd married the wrong girls, and only discovered the mistake after the cere mony was over. They were both mar- - rled the same night At the time of this swap Blankenship had six chil dren and Waters two. Blankenship gavi Waters two children to boot In the swap, therefore making an equal - division aa to the children. Blanken- ahlp was asked if he gave Waters' anything further in this trade and he replied: "Yes, I gave him th and a buck sheep." A little more than a week ago this ' same Harrison Blankenship had the audacity to come to this county after the lapse of fifteen years and palm himself off as a Methodist divine. A telegram wsa re ceived In Klnston this morning an nouncing the death of Mr. Fred A. La Roque. at Ashevllle. where he was taken Saturday night suffering with tubercu losis. He was taken sick about a month ago, having several hemorrhage from his lunsii, which were found to be ter ribly affected with tuberculosis. Special to The Observer. Ashevllle. Sept. 17. A big fox chase In Buncombe county ia on the programme for November 10th. The North Buncombe Hunting Club, beaded by Mr. J. M. Morgan, the veteran fox-hunter of Buncombe, last week challenged several Ashevllle hunters, Including Dr. V. E. Sevier, former Tax Collector J. K. Chambers, Mr. Shannon .Hunt and Dr. ,11. B. Weaver, to a fox chase, the contest to be under the national racing rules. The challenge has been accepted and the date for the chase set for No vember 10th. Each aide will have six doga, using their own dogs. More than a year ago the bonds were voted and Issued but on ac count of the strenuous money condi tions of th' country the trustees were unable to dispose of them until a recent date. The town immediately elected a rchool committee, compos ed of Dr. Rodwell, O. L. Williams, E. E. Hunt and B. O. Morris. Professor Jenkins, of Old Fort, has been secured as superintendent He comes most highly recommended and bids fair to rank the Mocksvllle graded schools with the best In the State. For as sistants he has the following teach ers: Miss Mattie Eaton. Miss Pattle Viola Hattle. of Mlesvllle; Mls Mary Fitzgerald. It Is Professor Jenkins' Intention to add yearly a grade until a high school course complete the regular graded curriculum required by the State. Sumner, administrator of th estate of Leonard Sumner, de ceased, against the Southern Railway Company, returned a verdict finding for the plaintiff and awarding 13,111 damage. The plaintiff demanded $20,000 on account of the death at Stat esvl lie three years ago of Leonard Sumner, an employe of the Southern, who, ltwas contended by the plaintiff, was knocked from a car by a side swipe.
