"Of all the destruction of animal which was now In progress on the faoe of this earth he knew of none which was giving greater returns to human ity In contributing; to man's health, culture, and happinees, animal for an imal, than that praetlced In the inter est ft advancing the medical and bo logitsl sciences. "Every department of physiology owed its best development to animal experimentation. Typhoid fever, tuber culoels. -the plangue. cholera, Jlphthe rla, yellow fever, malaria, cerebrospi nal raeningetks, smallpox, myxoedema, cretinism and snake bife were but a few of the maladies that had been studied by animal experimentation, and, In consequence, rendered more amenable to treatment. "There were a large number of dis eases peculiar to the animals which were useful to man, the nature of which had been Jlscovered snd tho prevention and cure of which had been accomplished by experiments on living animals. Professor Huxley said of Pasteur that his discoveries in money value alone had been sufficient to make good the war indemnity of tl. 000,000,009 paid by France to Ger many. The conquest of diphtheria wa due to Pasteur more than to any other man. His experiment were carried on with guinea pigs, rabbits and dogs." 300 H. P Greene Binglne (.Auto matic).
