Brltt, of Asheville, who was recently appointed special counsel to the Postorhce Department at Wash ington, has sent a message to Attor ney General Wlckersham accepting the appointment and! InforrnJng the Attorney General that he win report for duty July 1. Senator Britt will continue to make Asheville his resi dence, however, and his family will remain here. The salary attached to the office is $3,000 a ear although the encumbent Is privileged to pri vate practice. Senator Brltt, who Is one of the leaders of the party in western North Carolina, was elected to the Senate body of the North Carolina General Assembly last year, defeating his Democratic opponent In the Demo cratic county of Buncombe by more than 100 majority. He was urged by the Republicans of Asheville to make the race for mayor here this spring, hut declined to run. He Is an able lawyer and has hosts of friends In this section of the State who will regret that he Is to leave. Bradshaw was unanimously called to fill the pastorate made vacant by the resigna tion of Rev. R. p. Walker. The sal ary is to be nearly twice that ever paid a pastor of the church before. In addition to thia. a good sum will be gives toward furnishing a borne far the minister. . Rev. Mr. Bradshaw was formerly pastor of the church at Reldsville, but of late has been working under the Baptist State Convention as evange list for western North Carolina. C, Farmer Cashes 87a Bales From Ilia Farm and Still Has 17 Bales on Hand. Special to The Observer. Chester, 8. C, June 22. One of the biggest sales of cotton ever made in this part of the State was pulled off last week when Mr. S. M. Jones, of this city, sold to George McFadden Bros., the big importers, through their representative, Mr. J. O. Bar ron, 872 bales of cotton at 11 cents, the price for the lot being 318,600. This cotton was grown on Mr. Jones' big Tirzah place In York county, which he recently sold to Mr. E. A. Willis, of Lynchburg, Va. Mr. Jones has In storage at Bock Hil 179 bales, which he will sell at some future time. and which he raised on the plantation that he recently sold to Mr. W. O. Hughes. Mr. Jones has been one of the most successful farmers in all the State, but has decided to draw in his business, hence the sale of these magnificent wealth-producing plantations.
