Telephone or -aard to STATENEWS. Rev. H. B. Hemmeter, of St. Louis, has accepted the presi dency of Concordia College, in Conover, to which he was recent ly elected. He has been pastor of one of the largest Lutheran Churches in St. Louis. Mr. John R. Webb died at the family residence on Johns river on Saturday, the 17th inst., at 8 a. m., aged 6S years. Deceased had been a resident of Caldwell county all of his life, and was highly esteemed bv a wide circle of friends. Lenoir News, 22nd. The direc tors of the First Na tional Bank met cn Tuesday and elected J. L. Morgan, president, to succeed the late Maj. W. A. Conley, and John Yancey director to fill the vacancy on the Board of Directors caused by Maj. Con ley's death. Marion Progress, 22nd. With the end in view of making Weaver college, at . Weaverville, the leading junior institution of learning of Southern Methodism, the management of that college is determined to rai-e an endow ment fund of $200,000, of which amount $50,000 is expected to come from Asheville friends and supporters of the institution. It is understood that an effort is being made to establish a farm life school at Nebo. A farm life school would mean much to Mc Dowell and every effort should be put forth to secure it. Nebo is an ideal location and the progressive folk of that section may be de pended upon to do their part. By all means let's have the farm life school. Marion Progress. Having tendered his resignation as pastor of Marion Baptist church to take effect February 1st, Rev. Edward Long will leave soon for North Wilkesboro, N. C, where he has accepted a call to the First Baptist church of that place. Mr. Long has been the pastor of the Marion Baptist church for about six years and his work here has been very successful. Marion Progress, 22nd. John G. Nichols, of Rutherford- ton, has been chosen second as sistant state bank examiner and will take up his duties at once. He has for quite awhile been assistant cashier of the Commer cial Bank at Rutherford ton. S. A. Hubbard is chief examiner and H. D. Bateman a?sistan The three will now give their ent:re time to the examination cf the state banks under the super vision of the commission. Gill, of Statesville, has been notified of his appointment as deputy clerk of the Federal court at Statesville, Salisbury a d Charlotte, to succeed Col. Henry C. Cowles, deceased. The ap pcintment was made by J. M. -m a- 1 l 1 j i MilliKan, oi veensooro, wno is clerk of the Western district of North Caroliina, and is approved by Judge James E. Boyd. Mr. Gill's daughter, Miss Ruth Gill, is appointed deputy under her father, taking the place he held under Colonel Cowles. The State's Prison authorities are preparing for arj electrocution tD take place February 6 when the death penalty for murder is to be paid by W. L. Mewsom, a negro, sentenced from Henderson county. Then on February 13 there will be the electrocution of R. W. Cobb from Northampton county, for the murder of a coun try merchant near Weldon. On February 27 Walkter Sheldon is scheduled to die for wife-murder near Reidsville, Rockingham county. Also Bert Lentz, a negro, is to be electrocuted March 14 for murder committed in Greene county.
