This is now possible for a very.rea- sonable price. A thirty-acre tract oi land, overlooking the lake, has been bought by a few Morganton people and a road built through the vprop erty. The property is only nine miles from Morganton by the Yellow Mountain, road and thirteen miies by Glen Alpine and about three miles from Bridgewater. Hickory people have already built a handsome fish ing lodge on the lake, about" three miles from this oroperty. It is said the Southern Power Co. have plans prepared for a beautiful lodge for their employees located , about two miles from this land. Marion people are building on their side of the lake. In a few years this lake will be the rrreatest pleasure resort in Western Carolina. There is lumber in plenty near the property. Now is the time to secure one of these lots and build. TO FILM NORTH CAROLINA The month of September will see strange doings on Roanoke $sland, down in eastern North Carolina where English civilization first strove to gain a fothold on the American conti nent for on the historic island will then be re-enacted the earliest epi sodes of the State's history, before a moving picture machine so that a film narrative of the romance of Sir Wal ter Raleigh's attempted colonization of the New World may be made. Ancient arrivals of the type used by Amados and Barlowe, by Captain John White and Ralph Lane, will be brought to the islands; Indian vil lages will be built, and old Fort Ral eigh will be reconstructed according to the White drawings, just as it was three and one-half centuries ago, and on the original site. This is the first recorded attempt of any State to film its history and th plan is being watch ed closely by historical students all over the country. The film picturization of the Ral eigh colonization natures will be done under the direction of Captain A. D. Clement of Goldsboro, who has been working on th plan for the last Dale, A. seven years. The staging of the Dale, S Ml 1 . I . ' scenes win oe supervised bv Miss Elizabeth B. Grimbell of New York, an experienced pagentry director. Miss Grimball will go to Manteo, on Roanoke Island, late in August to direct the training of the characters ; for the leading episodes in the early history of the State. Hundreds of people will be required for the vari ous scenes, and' these will be gath ered from Mantec, Elizabeth City, Edenton and other centers compara tively near the island. Miss Mabel Evans, superintendent of schools in Dare county, jn which Roanoke Island is" located, will or ganize the- characters for the huge production. She will be assisted by Miss Cathrine Albertson of Elizabeth City. The filming of the Lost Colony is intended as Jhe first step in a pictori al record of the State's history up to the present day. It is being done un der the auspices of the State Depart ment of Public Instruction -and the North Carolina Bureau of Community Service, an organization that has car ried the moving picture to school dis tricts in all parts of the. State. The same equipment will later carry pic tures of North Carolina's historically interesting places and events to school children in every section of the State.
