MISS WILSON TO SING HERE THIS EVENING I'rt'sident's Daughter Delighted Witw Mountain Scen ery :The Program for Tonight's Concert Is Antici pated With Pleasure by Many People Miss Wilson Arrived Yesterday Afternoon "These wonderful mountains they e indeed an Inspiration,": remarked I. a Mis Marcaret ilson yesterday as she stood lookln!,' at Sunset, in the Slow of the afternoon sun. 'Oh, I just love them and wiah that I could climb all over thein. ' .Miss' Wilson reached Asheville from Spartanburg on a delayed train and when th ereception committee met her at the station she was bright and when the reception committee sion tit tlie courtesy shown her. " ou know, she said. 1 did not expect it. You are so good to meet me and' I will never forget it." In the party with .Miss AVilson is .Mrs, David, who will accompany Miss Wilson on the piano at the Auditorium tonight, and Charles E. Cole, who is in 'charge of the business matters concerning the tour. Keaehinf? Grove Park inn. Miss Wilson, charmed with the delight of the picture, was loath to enter the building, and as the doors opened the soft strains of the pipe organ touched ; her ear aid "die too1 silent for a mo- ! merit,' then f emarkini;. "it seems al most a sacrilege to speak w hile the ! organist plays." ! In ,:er alnuist childish delight, the i clauclifr of the president was charm-1 ingly interesting as she enthusiastic ally expressed her juy and happiness because of the opportunity of spend- : ins a little while in the Land of .the , .Sky. ! ! Miss Klizabeth Porter today save I The TIMES the following statement ' about Miss Wiison and the program that awaits Asheville people this even ing: i "Asheville is fortunate in being one of the cities to secure Margaret Wil- : son for an evening of song. When one reads of the enthusiasm of Texas audiences, of Kentucky's crowds who hear her with delight, of the big hous es in all the states where Miss Wil son has sung, it is with anticipation I of spending a really musical evening as well as having this pleasant oppor tunity of knowing our great presi dent's daughter that Asheville is look ing forward to the great event for this evening. "Miss Wilson's selections of songs is that kind that tired men love after a long and strenuous day of toil; the kind that the soldiers would ask for at camp when homesick or discour aged; the kind the musicians love be cause they appreciate sincerity of ex pression where one is not conscious of technique. For technique is only a means to an end; and when the artist has reached that end and sings to the heart as well as to the head, that art ist has reached the goal that all mu sicians work for, but all do not attain. "Margaret Wilson appeals directly to the heart of the listener with sim ple and beautiful expression, and it is a rare opportunity for Asheville peo ple to hear such a singer. "Folk songs are songs from the heart, sung because of joy or sorrow. The folk songs of all nations are the ones that live through the ages. It is charming to hear them sung by one who un?' stands their meaning and Interprets them naturally. On Miss Wilson's program are typical folk songs of different nations which will be extremely Interesting. The other numbers are delightfully selected and arranged. The cause is patriotic and fine and the needs are endlesa. The V J;jii. A -VI- vS':"- n- tt V.-" Auditorium should be packed tonight; everv one shild come to hear this lovclv singer. While showing our pa-? triotism for the splendid cause we: shall be entertained most charmingly at the same time." Tonight's Proaram.
