The meeting being organised, the Chairman pro ceeded iu a 'ew brief hut appropriate remarks to ex pliia the object ot the Meeting. On moiiou of Col. R G. Wallace, M. Meluis, Esqrs., and I)r, J. IL Uollamy, to draft resolutions for the nc ion of the meeting. In the absence of the Committee, the meeting was adirearied by Dr W. A. Berry, Jno. A. Taylor , Esq., rtnd the IIou. W. S Ahe, with stirring and forcible soceches. The Committee alter an absence of some length of i of time returnee', and. through thir Chairman, Dr. A, J, DeRosset, submitted the following resolutions, which were unanimously adopted : We, a portion of the citizens of New Hanover Coun. ty, irrespective of party, cordially unite ia the follow ing resolutions, to wit : 1st. Resolved, That the election of a President and Vicj President by the Republican party of the North, upo l gronudn purely sectional, and altogether ho-tile to Hi i rights and interests of the Southern States, cuts oft' this lat hope of the preservation of the pre sent. Union ; and that it is consequeatly the impera tive duty of the State of North Carolina to prepare for assuming her position as an Independent Sove rt'.guty. 2d. Resolved. That, a Convention of the people of North Carolina should be called without d- lay. for the purpose of deliberating upon the best mode of maintain the dignity and honor of the Stale in this great crisis of her history ; and for providing for her withdrawal from the Confederacy of the Unite;! Stales. ad. Resolved, That In view of the perils by which we are surrounded, we consider it the imperativ; duty of our Legislature to proceed pptedily to enact a law to organize and arm the militia of the Stiite. 4th. Resolved. That copies of these resolutions be communicated by the Chairman of this meeting to our Senator i.nd Re-presentati ves in the General Assembly t be by them brought before their respective Houses, C n motion of Dr. J. F. Mcliee. Jr., it was further. Re olved. That a corps of Midute Men be formed, which was unanimously adopted by the meeting. This fact was put to the test, at Dan Rice's eircus on Saturday night. Capt. Travis, tlie famous marksman, fired a bullet at the animal on exhibition at the show ; it fell to the ground flattened by contact with the thick skin. The animal did not even move when he was struck.
