URAHi M. r , Feb. 25, 1926. TOBACCO GROWERS FACE THE FACTS. ' Annual Session of Tri-State Associa . tion Elects Directors And Re views Problems At the annual meeting of the members of the Tobacco Growers Cooperative Association in Ra leigh ou May 18, the election of all but two directors of the tri state association were confirmed by the membership. President Norwood of the as sociation reported that the associa tion had not had a successful year, that it had been obliged to release all of its'field servicu work ers, district and local graders au 1 all local warehouse managers and was selling aud leasing some of its properties. Neither tho board of directors nor the members in session at Raleigh thi j week took any active step for or against the receiving of tobacco by th-( association dur • in» the seasou of 5926, but it was stated that this will be referred to the new board for their decisiou at their first official meeting on June 1. Reporting on the stocks and value of tobacco now held by the association President Norwood in his message to the members stated: "The 1925 1926 season has not been a successful one. The as sociation has received about 82,- 000,000 pounds of a total produc tion of 550,000,000 pdunds, which iiteaus that the association receiv ed 14£ per cent of the tobacco produced in this area. "The association hadt>n hanu us of May 1 approximately 75,000,- 000 pounds of tobacco with a bankers' valuation of«? 16,908,360 - 99. On ill is tobacco the associa tion owes to its creditors 18,660,- 689.72. The association has de ducted from tobacco delivered by members for guarantees given to the live warehousing corporations $1,172,686.36. The association lias advanced to the tivo ware housing corporation for obliga ; tion* maturing against these five warehousing corporations $1,151,- 859.32. Taking care of these ad vai ces aud all obligations of the association other than the 1925 crop's deductions for warehouses «nd for commercial reserve, tho members have an equity iu the present slock of tobacco of $9,597,- 843.36. The balance due on the live warehousiug corporations is $940,976.15. "Decreased deliveries to the Tobacco Growers Cooperative As sociation for the seasonM92s-1926, „ the niits for receivership which have beeu brought by the mem bers of the association, the repoit ot the Federal Trade Commission and the complications caused by the redrying policy of the associa tion have brought about condi tions which have necessitated that tho management of the as Hociation eliminate every expense possible, retaining oi.ly in its employ bufficient men to handle! the sale of tobacco anu sufficient iuen to handle its warehouse properties. "The committee appoiuted at ihe meeting of the board of di rectors which accepted the resig nation of Mr. I'atlersou as geueral manager of the association was to serve iu the capacity of general manager of tho association. "Immediately upon the ap pointment of this committee, the committee looked into the affairs of the association. It found as follows: (1) that no sales or prac tioally no sa HI of tobacco were being made; that those who were purchasers of tobacco apparently were not interested in bnying our tobacco at this time; (2)that «t was necessary to greatly reduce the number of employees of the i.sso - ciation so as to conserve the assets of tho association, iciaiuing only, those men who were used iu tho ' sale of tobacco and a force t > look 1 after the physical properties of' b tho association; (3) the b jard and' ||tbe committee acting iu confer ence with tho directors of the several warehousing corporations, offered to sell or leiae any or all property of the several waro the treasury of the association and so as to conserve as far ais possible the assets of the sevy.il I warehousing corporations; ing to the decreased deliveri«».Vbv members of the association anil j owiug to the difficulties above re ferred to, the committee felt that . it would uot be wise for th m to lay plans or to employ iuen for t*he handling of ttie 1926 crop; (5) . the committee in conference with the officers of the Baltimoie Fed eral Intermediate Credit* P.aik find they are sympathetic with an orderly marketing of the tobacco now held by the association. "As to ariaiigeinents for hau-1 i ling the 1920 crop, youi commit tee | has made none, feeling ill ic th * . newly elected directors and the ad vice to bo obtained froui to lay's meeting would be of value i i da terming a future policy for the association." A Good Recipe For Whitewash. Numerous inquiries are re ceived by the extension division, of State College about the whitewash to use for the lieu house or other outbuildings. The requests are particularly numer ous during the early summer. The following directions ustd with success in auother state may give an effective whitewash for use in North Carolina: "Slack a half-bushel of quick lime or lump lime with boiling water, keeping it covered during the process. Strain this and add a peck of salt dissolved in warm wator, three pounds of ground rice boiled in water uutil it is a thin paste, a half pound of Span ish whiting and a pcund of clear blue dissolved in warm water. &lix these together well and let the mixture staud for several days. Heat it and apply as soon as possible with the whitewash brush. "Aluin added to whitewash will make it stick better. Use an ounce to a gallon. Molasses makes the lime more soluble and tnakos it penetrate the wood or plaster more deeply. Use a pint of molasses to a gallon of white wash. A pound of cheap bar soap dissolved iii a gallou of boil lug water aud added u> live gal lans of thick whitewash will im part a gloss like that of oil paint." Trustee's Sale of Real Property.
