mm ZSMHSl ?! I fa OuJV OpUAto*' I By CLINT FULLER I Louisburg, which jumped in one week from no rating at all to number 3 in the state and stayed there for three weeks early in the season, is in seventh place among State Class A squads this week. The Bulldogs first made the list on October 1 and remained in third place until October 22 when they slipped to fifth. Following the locals second loss they placed tenth, then eighth and for the past two weeks have been rated number 7. Not bad for a squad given only an outside chance at winning five ball games. Having said our goodbyes -football wise, that is-to the fine seniors at Louisburg, the sad task arises that we bid farewell to some equally fine members of the Franklinton Rams squad. CLIFF WILLIAMS -Three time All Conference; Player pf the Year. Those who do the picking have said as much as we can about big Cliff. Getting honors as a center, a backhand a linesman must have set some sort of record. Of all the Rams, he'll be the most missed. BOBBY KEARNEY--A Johnny-come-lately to the big time gridiron, Bobby showed what Ram fans missed when he was hurt last year. But he made up for much of it as he performed far beyond what might have been expected of him. He leaves a hole in the backfield that isn't likely to be filled for some time. TIM LEONARD-- Another fine backfield man. Good runner and pass receiver, Tim, too sort of come alive this year. This lightweight was light in weight only. In spirit, he was very heavy for his size. WARREN COLLINS-lf he could just leave that talented toe. The sure extra point is not likely to be quite so sure after he's gone. * GLEN PHELPS-Another back who will be missed. He didn't get much chance to fill in at quarterback this year, but he made up for it in many other ways. STUART EAKES -Been around four years and been around the tackles all the while. Opponents of the Rams will miss him almost as much as Coach Jimmy O'Neal. A real good linesman. AL SANDLING-A heavyweight in every sense of the word, Al has made the Rams defense go. It's almost impossible to shove a 250-pounder around under any circumstances. When he doesn't want to be, it is impossible. With no pun intended. Al's leaving, leaves a big hole. BOBBY AYSCUE-Another Ram linesman who helped make his squad the second best defensive team in the conference. Tough to score over Bobby. And tough to be without him when the whistle blows next fall. SPENCER STR ICKLAND -Another giant in size and desire in that Ram line. Another hard hole to fill. EVERETTE FRYE-Smaller than his counterparts in the line, but in three nevertheless. His leaving leaves one more gfey hair in his Coach's head. Remember Henry Bibby, the B. F. Person cage ace? Henry played freshman ball last year for UCLA. Remember UCLA? No. 1 college team in the country. Lew Alcindor graduated and guess who is going to make thti squad as a regular this year? Right. Henry Bibby. Henry's parents, who live just off the River Road near Mitchner's Crossroads, received a letter this week from Gary Cunningham, Assistant Coach of the Bruins which said: "Henry has been playing very well in practice and will be a regular player on our varsity this year. He continues to have his outstanding attitude toward athletics and academics. Cunningham also disclosed that Bibby has won the Clarence A. DyKstra Award -which is equal to the cost of room and board at the University residence-hall rates, the student incidental fees, and tuition-for academic accomplishments. UCLA, favored to be No. 1 again this year, made a millionaire of Alcindor in four years. It looks as if Henry Bibby is on the verge of having it made. Ronnie Reitz, who was golf pro at Green Hill Country Club here a few years ago and moved to Fayetteville, later to go to Raleigh and more recently to Greenwood, S. C., is joining the pro tour. Ronnie has a two-year contract with a Raleigh sponsor and will joifi the tour for the Carribean Tournament. COLUMBUS' 13 BOUND TO BC A GREAT SUCCESS!' 0 In Homecoming Tilt Canes Tackle Southwood The Louisburg College Hurricanes, undefeated in their first three games, will meet the Rams of South wood, undefeated in their first three games, at Holton Gym on Saturday night. This is the Homecoming game for the Canes, and for added in centive the game will be the second Cavalier-Tar Heel Con ference game. Louisburg has a 1-0 conference record, having defeated Albemarle on Wed nesday at Albemarle. The Canes will be paced 20, and 32 points in the Rams three victories. Wilder has 21, 13, and 15. Wilder averaged 15.5 pts. per game at Southwood last year as a by guard Larry Paschall, for ward Terry Davis, and center Ricky Richardson. All three boys are averaging in double figures. An added feature of the game will be the meeting of three former Youngsville players from the 1968 State Champions. Louisburg's Larry . Paschall will match skills with Southwood's E. J. Wilder and Jesse Preddy. Preddy, who prepped at Har grave last year, has scored 17, freshman. Coach Jim Tomp kins of Southwood says that his Rams are small this year, but much better defensively than last years squad. They make up for their lack of height with quickness and ex cellent shooting. Hurricanes Blast Dolphins George Bowden blistered the nets for 21 points in 26 minutes to lead Louisburg College to its first conference win of the new season. The victim was the College of the Albemarle by a score of 95-62. The 'Canes roared to a 59-22 halftime margin on the Jesse Preddy. Larry Paschall E. J. Wilder Trio Reunite Saturday The three former Youngsville State Champion Team members meet here Saturday night. Preddy and Wilder will play for Southwood, Paschall will lead Louisburg.
