In bnr advertising columns tlii.s Veek will be found a two column ad- 'iltess to the citizens of Union Coun ty, by Mv. J. J. Pasty, on the Con- our read- tn t t) 1 i 1 t i Mention qi ers to disl tlj address is inserted j advertisement: lor \v and of bo hy any tynans ; lint/; we propose ).o anaw the argulttehfc ptodiipod therein. In the first t'liieo; Mr. Pasty’s ad dress says; “This Gbiitehiioii was callbd by the Legislature, without first silbmitting the question to the people,” Now we all know that when the cjilestion of Convention loan sub- Shitied to the people, t};roe years ago, 'these same lladicals told ui^ if y/as il legal because the Constituiion made no iproeisi/in for so sub'iiiitt'ny il, and ■Judge Perirsdii {'oudored an opinion to this effect. The Gonyentiqn was balled in the o:i'y wtiy it could be Called under the Constitution, and 'there fcljbws know it when they talk iibdut not stibmitting it to the peo- jje. Thd Co'iiotitution •ahiah. they gave 'a.s juakCEl no provision for submitting •it tp ll’je jieople. He also says, >'Pvei'y good citizen 'fehould oppose the movement at every kttaiuMible stage of its progress, and ive cp,n beat accomplish this by send ing n’eil tq lialeigli y,’ho will make the Organization and adjournment of the Convention co-incident events.” Wo ■feuppose he presumes to say that if Radicals are sent there as delegates that th(!y will just organize and ad- jjourn witliout making any change in Pre Constitution. That they will do this we 15'cry muEi do'dU. In fact; the Radical leader^ Ure trying to dupe the people into tdting for thenl by hold ing diit tlie jfromise of an irrgiiediate Adjournment. But silch is not their ihtentidil if, unfOrtuiiEttely, tfiey sho uld Succeed jn receiving <1 majority of the delegates to the conyentiqu. One of their speakers at a tneetiijg in Ruth- fii’ford comity several days ago dur ing the course of his speech sa'd: A little legislation hy good and loyal men in Convention assembled is neces- tb expose his own ignorance and unfii ness for the place to which h,e aspires. The amendniont of the Constitution does not necessarily restore the coun ty court or involve any sudh necessity, or in the slightest degr.ee advance the interests Cf the iawybi's, bs a class. On U'c .confrayy, the purpose is so to refarnl thb Drg.euio law as to enable thb people to adapt their government, county and St^te, to the progressive changes inthdir Ideal condition, with out disturbing the organic or affect ing dr endangering the rightrj, civ il or otherwise, of any citizen. The position that the Constitution of North Carolina is a copy of that of Nevy York is as false as it is ingenius. It is the bait put upon a Radical hook, and fished by an Iiuhpendent whose address shows him tq be a jaundiced .Democrat. The Constitution of North Carolina is only' in piart a representa tive of that of New Y'ork. Tbo re mainder tjf it is the emanation and luachiuatidn of the niotley drew who fixed it up and sent it forth as the Constitution of the State of North Carolina, and it is the etils in this Constitution that the Convention will handle. He proclaims hiniself as a candi date for Convention, “unconnected and untrammelled by political party.” Now, is it not strange that a man would say that he was not connected with any political party, who has been a candidate on the I?ac]ical ticket for office at esepyr election since the pres ent Constituticii w.-is adopted, except when he was already in pffice, and an acknowledged leader of the Badic'al party .tU Union county. a matter of course he felt a great in terest in the prosperit.y of the people, tl a': be was glad to seethern (ywaking on the subject of Education—without education no people can be great or good, to banish vice and increase morality, we must educate the people, not only the men bid the women also! for educated and groat women are the mothers of great men; &c. Vve can not giye an elaborate Synopsis of the si^eech in a pewspaper article, but will ouly say that it did great credit to the heart and head of the young lawyer, and we know left an impres sion on the minds of tbo hearers that will stimulate to uqbler efforts in the great cause of learning. Mr. L. is a young mp.ii of groat promise and some of these days will make himself felt as well as heard in his profession or in the halls of legislation. We cannot close, tljs article with out again calling attention to the KOGPITALITY of tbe citizens of the Y/t;}*®’® Store neigiiliorliood. In this day of selfish ness, it is very pleasant to find a peo ple who have not forgotten the days when the name of Southemer was a synonym’for genuine hospitality; and such W6 found tlioso pecyilo to_be; they seemed to want everybody to feet welcome, and succeeded admir- ifbly. Not the least of the evid'cncea of this liberal snirit, was the handsome contribution made to tne Monroe Gornet Band for their services. When the sun was neamng the Western horizon, the crowd oiSpeised in v-a- rious directions, oacli one well pleased with himself and the wliole v/orld, and as they are leaving, wo, too, will take Quv departure wishing th(i ppo- pic of 'ilTiite’s Store many returns' of that pleasant sixteenth Conie, comrades fill a bumper, Until it doth run o’er And let’.s drink, in cold v/ater, A “health to 'White’s Store-” ' ' “SPECIAL.” For the Euguirer. He says “the Convention movem'eut was fipriirig upion the poojil'o far party pitrpoSOa 'aldrio at tho exponao of the people liiid to tbo detriment of their beat interests.” In answer we would Bay that the Convention was a necea- Bity; and that successful legislation could upt be had until a cliange was jiludri as the OauStitulion was ,so com plicated and coufilsod that somep.arts of it wdnld ahvays conliict with others. THE DAY was clear and bright, and by 10 o’clock thp grove surrounding the Academy was covered with a dense crowd of people, ajl looking happy arid che'orful, as if they auticips),t®d a good time. YYe noticed a good many people from Wadesboro aiiilPulkton; Union also sent a fall share of dele gates, The examinli )-. a had com- menoec] and were progres.siug quietly, when all at once tfiere burst forth a thrilling strain of melody upon the hill some distance off, iiumediately all was excitement; the teacher’s voice could scarcely be heard, and as the sounds approached nearer, all the small boys rushed from the house to see What it nieaqt, The question was soon solved by the appearance in the distance of the MONEOP OOllNET IS.VXD in their ne\Y band w>gon drawn by four horses. The band presented a fine appearanep ip their handsome unifor'ms, and each member did his best in the way of hloioing and suc- epded in making splendid fpet we heard the mupic oomplmented on every side, (and if you will not tclll the boys, wo will tell yon somethin: else—we think we heartl some youngj ladies say that the “Boys’’ were quib handsome loo.')
