Loan Approved For Cherokee Congressman Roy A. Taylor Wednesday announced the approval of a loan from the U.S. Farmers Home Re-elect I FELIX I POTTS TO THE BRYSON CITY Board of I Alderman! TUESDAY, MAY 4 pd.pol.adv. Administration of $65,900,00 to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to improve the rural community water and sewer system. Congressman Taylor said the loan will enable the Cherokee Tribal Council to improve the central water and sewer system serving some 300 families and 40 business establishments in and around Cherokee. STI Host To Librarians Southwestern Technical Institute was host to 33 librarians, library supervisors and aides, and students for a demonstration on book repairsheld Monday afternoon. Mrs. Dorris Beck, Director of STI’s Learning Resource Center, Welcomed the guests, and Fred Marble of Gaylord Brothers conducted the demonstration. These guests registered for the meeting: Swain County - Helen Lovingood, Swain County Librarian; Gertrude Ferguson, Bryson City Elementary; Virginia Million, Cherokee Community Library; Pearle Reagan, Cherokee. Leonard Jack Lollis Sr., 43, of the Deep Creek Community, died unexpectedly Sunday evening at his home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with 23 years years service. Surviving are his wife, Mrs.Margarete Lollis; a son, Leonard Jack Lollis Jr. and a daughter Miss Margarete Lollis, both of the home; the mother, Mrs. Josie Wiggins Lollis of Bryson City; three brothers, Ben of Bryson City, Bill of Candler and Frank Lollis of Gloucester, Va.; five sisters, Mrs. Laura Medford and Mrs. Eva Thomas, both of Bryson City, Mrs. Nell GUreath of Horse Shoe, Mrs. Julie Lunsford of Asheville and Mrs. Bessie Jones of Arden. Services were held at 2:30 plm. Wednesday in Deep Creek Bpaitst Church. The Rev. Jack Hyde officiated. Burial was in Swain Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Ray Cates, Gas Woody, Vernon Lollis, Raymond Mitchell, Grady Blanton and Ted Thomas. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at BUI Moody Funeral Home, where the body remained untl until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. MRS. MYRTLE TURPIN ' Mrs. Myrtle Davis Turpin, 53, of Whittier, died Saturday in a Burke County hospital after a long illness. Surviving are the husband, Jade Turpin, three daughters, Mrs. Ann Banks of Whittier, Mrs. Louise Nations of Cullowhee and Mrs. Darlene Rathbone of Clyde; five sons, Jade of Charlotte, Jimmy of Waynesville, Edward of Pineville, W. Va., Charles of Sylva and Lyle Turpin of Cullowhee; two toothers, Jewel of Whittier and Dewey Davis of Columbus, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Dora Weeks of Whittier, and 18 grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p jn. Tuesday in Whittier Church to God. The Rev. Doyle Maney and James Caviness officiated. Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter and Candler Parris, Clayton and Haven Dayia, Buford Blanton and John Childers. The family received friends from 788 to 9 pjn. Monday at Swain County Students Named To Winter Quarter Honor Roll Twenty Swain County students are among the 96 who were named to the winter quarter Honor Roll at Southwestern Technical Institute. A student earns this honor by attaining a scholastic average of at least 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 quality point rating. Higdon, 51, former resident of Bryson City, died unexpectedly Monday evening in a Detroit hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack. He was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Faye Boring of Maryville, Tenn. and Mrs. Della Shelton and Mrs. Myrtle Toser, both of Detroit; four brothers, Paul of Bryson City and Joe, Furman and Vincent Higdon, all of Detroit.
