Wednesday, Jauuar.v 23rd., a 11.30 a- m., at the home ot .r. James Tyler, of Cerro Gordo, N. C-, a marriage ceremony was performed. 1 he event was pleas ingly delightful and very beconi ing. As a gentleman and citizen the qualities of the groom are un questioned, while the bride is very much accomplished, not too tall to be handsome nor too jtout to be admirable. Soon afterwards, Mr. and Mrs. Phillips accompanied by the lat ter's brother, Mr. S. S. A man going there today, after an absence of 10 years, would simply fail to know the place as Lumberton until his eyes fell on the ugly old court house- Main street, built up with handsome new business blocks, and well paved, would do credit to a city of 15,000 or 20,000 inhabitants. There are 2 banks, both in olegaDt quarters, 2 vpry prosperous cotton mills, and a cotton oil mill doing an immense business. The National Cotton tem of granolithic sidewalks. Th. waterworks system has tke best pressure in the State, except Payetteville. The residence sec tions are building up in every direction with homes of eleganl; architecture. A fine system of graded schools is what Lumber ton now has its head on. What struck the correspondent most forcibly was that all tha Lumberton folks seemed hard at wont, in the charming home where the writer had the good fortune to be a guest there were rive manly educated sons, all ag gressive young business men, all holding responsiblepositions all at work. .11 . 1 io ; . i; oil. . i !.. . i . . . i ..I A Memorable Dav liit. fiit ii wnrlr in n I. in i in.' . wy 2-lxlW feet with everything in .tie of ,,U1 d"ays we remember readiness for an extension.
