REGENT SLUMP JN COTTON NOT DUE TO CO-OP SALES, Raleigh, Feb. 22—Reports from New York that the recent slump in cotton prices was due in part to the heavy selling by thy North Carolina Cotton Growers association are de deciared to be without basis in fact by U. B. Blalock, genera) manager oi the association. Air. Blalock says the association is adhering to its policy of orderly tales. and that it is under no ne cessity of dumping cotton on the r.arket and has not done so. He in dicated t'nst night that no sales are now being made, as he said the as sociation is well ahead of its an nounced schedule of monthly sales. Two advances have already been made to members of the association, he explained, and enough cotton hag already been sold to permit another advance to be made in the spring and preparations are now under way for getting that out at the proper time. The loved ones left have our deepest and tendcrest syrm pathy on account of the sting of sepa ration. This, however, will not be remembered when the re-union takes place on the glory shore. That is sure to take place at the Lord's ap pointed time; because the loved ones! are His also Yc editor preached a good sermon in his editoriai about the old preach er. This scribe is not destined to ever be full-handed, but he sincerely hopes .hgt he may never have to de pend cn the charity of the churches. He has become acquainted with the attitude of the people on fhis ques tion. He has made appeals for the j I poor old woyn-out servant of God from his pulpits a great many imes, ;and taken offerings for him, only to t he disappointed in hig effort to help, dust one contributor very of.on shouid give more on such occasions than the whole congregation puts in There is too much discrimination and lop , sidedednesg as a rule. It has not ) been many years ago since he knew a certain man to give ten times as ! much to one object, and that object , .*en thousand miles away, as he gave to his pastor for hig support and that ; of his family. Perhaps he should not' have given less to the object of his j heart's deligh', but he should have! ' been mare liberal with the man i through whom the Lord was breaking the bread of life to him and hig fami- ^ iy. We wish the church people might come to have a conscience in behalf of .he old messenger of hope :n the not distant^future If a married man is responsible be fore the laws of the land for the conduct of his wife, what is the pqor fellow to do who wishes to heip a destitute and widowed sister out of tha' which is his own when wifie will j not allow it? Such a case is to be j pitied, to couch it in the feeblest kind ;of phraseology; for it is beyond this humble scribe to offer advice. But he I knows of some who need the advice and wouid giadly receive such if itI } eouid possibly be given.
