Raleigh Observer: On Sunday night
as some gentlemen of Shoe I Heel were on
their way to Ltiraberton to attend the
Superior Court this week, a sudden and
brilliant light illumined the western heav
ens as if the moon had suddenly shone
forth in all her fullness; turning their
heads they saw just in the rear a large
meteor with
a tail apparently about a
hundred yards long, falling very rapidly.
It struck tho earth with terrific force
about a half mile from these gentlemen,
who were somewhat frightened. No
harm was done that we hear of.
