FirBt, then, Mrs Hand has a very fine female Fcbool eere, and deserves great credit for her part in all matters pertaining to any moral and intellect ual amusements in which her pupils wish to engage. It was her school that furnished the Queen of May and made the celebration. j At about 8 o'clock on Friday even ing la6t (April 30th) the upper Hoor of the academy was packed with eager ppectators. Boon the curtain , was drawn, and the throne, with one of the maids in full drees, Miss Bettie Her rir g, who was destined to bestow the Crown ,was in full view. The throne was a magnificent bower of roses, lovely and beautiful, but not half so beautiful or lovely as the fair crowner who recited an appropriate ode to the Queen aDd a welcome to the guest". Her part, from beginning to end, was performed in a manner highly credita ble to herself. Soon the other bcauti iul maids came out, singing and per forming the several parts assigned them to the entire satisfaction of the audience. At this juncture the floor ing gave way, causing considerable" consternation for a shorfe time. Order was at length restored, and the Fairy Queen, with her attendants, came out and did homage to the throne, iu ; an tieipation of the. lovely Queen, who wai bo soon to take her seat in the royal chair, all decorated with flowers, evergreens and vines. All eyes were eagerly turned towards the royal chamber, as the music and bustle told that Her Majesty was soon to emerge from thence and ascend the throne. Her appearance was greeted with hearty applause by the audience who who were in raptures at her right royal bearing. Mies Livvie Miller was selected as tbe Queen of May, and with a courtly demeanor, in a faultless drees, she stepped a very Queen in her incomparable beauty. The acting throughout was excellent that of Miss Miller, (the Qaeen) Miss Herring, (the Crowner) and Miss Eliza Williams especially flue. The audience were highly delighted with the manner in which eaoh part was performed, and when all tbe exercises were concluded, regretted that the fleet-w inged hours had passed so swiftly by. M. M. M. A Down East, editor comes back from Dixie with the statement that the bills of fare at the hotels are quite elaborate and the cooking good; hut 'the beds are not cleanly and are full of uninvited guests.' We fear our Down East friend tried to economize too ranch in his selection of hotel ac commodations. Boat Post. ' Holt's Endorsement of Spcer's Port Grape Wine.
