Across the Continent.
De?pite the inclement weather a good
audience assembled at the Opera House
on Saturday night to witness the per
formance of the Oliver Doud Byron
troupe in "Across the Continent." The
play is a highly sensational one and was
much enjoyed by the audience. 'The
troupe is composed of a versatility of
talent and each member sustained his
role with satisfaction to the audience.
Messrs Banks and Kadclifle.in their spec
ialties, were very fine. The closing
scene was a hand to hand fight with the
Indians, and the Ferret pat in his work
well and in time. Come and see us again,
Mr. Byron.

The steamtugs lfay T. Wftife and

a severe gale on Saturday, whilejff Fry-ing-Pan
Shoals. Th seas ran very high,
and the wind was blowing about 30 miles
au hour from the east nor'east. The
scows in tow bad to be turned adrift' to
save the tugs. The Captains and crews
alm6st gave up all hopes and made up
their minds that they would go to Davy
Jones' locker, but the tugs weathered
the storm and were in port this after
noon coaling up.
" The st cam tug B'anch e t,waa also in

with her .tow but it was thought she
would go under every minute. She will
go out in the morning in search of tht
drifting scows. It is not known whether
the White and Lightning will go on
to Savannah or be ordered back from
here to Baltimore. The dredging mi.
chine and scows were intended for work
on the river and harbor improvements at
Sayannah. The scows were valued at
$15,000. .
