Sacb rt the chimerical and delajire hope that buoys up the fallinf spirit of the rcyenucrj. When Candler, from across the Blue Ridge, pleaded for an old Republican to lead the ticket, ami Trice, of Wilmington, spoke feelingly of the wishes of his con stituents that the Republican fl;.2 should be committed only to a Republican, and Holloa, of Yadkin, represented that the old Ore tried Republicans of Yadkin and tho surrounding counties could ncrer be persuaded to swallow Dr. York, the revenucrs pbohpoohcd thena and declared that Republicans always Toted the ticket. And Dr. York, they said, would carry so piany Democrats with him in his old dis trict that he would be elected while the nomination of a Republican would mean defeat from the start. It then hpmmea doairablo to. see on what this claim of York strength is "based. What is tae foundation of it? Below we gire Baiton's yote when he ran for fiovernor in 1SS0. Hut our information is that ho cannot hold any of these Democrats now except in Wilkes. Aa an offset he lost heavily In Forsyth and Yadkin, and from what Mr. Holloa said n ihe A'oop oi the convention we suppose that he will not nor poll tn 1QN Republican strength ia those counties. Itaxtoa atot ia those counties 147 more roles than York; and York beat Dockery 519 votes. Leavin? out Wilke? county Duxton beat him In the district 498 and York beat Dockery ICS. That is the measure of his personal popular ity, when roanm as an Independent Democrat, outside of Wilkes connty. If that Tote is maintained, then, in the State at large York will fa'.l 4.000 be hind Baxtoa's vote. We do not invoke these figures. We base no argument opoa them.- We merely quote them to show bow ill-founded are the preten sions of the revenue ring that the figures prove that York is coin 2 to s weep the State. Let it be remembered that on the basis of the votes cast York falls behind Buxton about 4.000 in tho Slate. Evidently the revenuers bad no examined these fixures. They were in Ignorance of what a com parson of them would show. They forced the nomina tion of a weak candidate In utter disre gard ol tho wishes ot the Republican masses la tho State, on the unfounded notion that York would get more voics than Buxton. A Horist In Chambersburx. Ta.. has a remarkable roso both. During the list three years, and including tbo present time, over 10.000 buds were plucked from its numerous branches. Sonic Idea may be had of the value of this vice when we slate that these buds sold during tho winter at $15 a huudrcd. At this lima not less than 2.000 buds can be counted oa the Tine. It is be lieved that with two exceptions it is the largest and most prolific Marecba! Neil la the United States. William II.
