Some 160.000 acres of the finest land in Houth Dakota will probably be thrown open to settlement with in a month, on the completion of negotiations by the Government with the Sioux Indians of the Yank ton agency. The Indians will sell seven townships on the north side of their reservation, and another rush of speculators, settlers and adven turers may be expected to follow as soon as, or before, the tract is ready for occupancy. - The Washington correspondent of the New York World says: "There is only one way to get satisfaction out of a public office, said Presi dent Harrison to a friend not long ago, ana tiiat is to pi ease yoursen while you are in it. You cannot possibly give Satisfaction to the rest. of the people, no matter how you try; and the more you try the less success you will have. The best President that it is possible for this country to have is always sure to go out of office with enough enemies to make him uneoinfortaole if he is a very sensitive man; and the worst possible President when retiring from office is sure to have enough friends to uiflko life agreeable to him if he has sense enough to care for nobodv who doesn't care for him. The one thing that 1 will try to do as President will be to act so that when my term of office has ex pired 1 can say with truth and a clear conscience, 'Thank God I have satisfied myself.' It's the only satisfaction that a man can be cer tain of." Chairman Townsend, of the Deui- ocratis State Executive Committee of Ohio, in talking to a correspou dent of theNew York Tunes about the Democratic prospects in that State, said: "First, the Democratic organization in Ohio is stronger to day than when we elected Mr. Hoadlj' six years ago. There are no factions and no silt? issues. The Republicans are at war among them selves in the State, the Governor leading one wing, while the Lieu tenant Governor is endeavoring to represent the Sherman wing. The Senate bolters are among the Sher man men, while Foraker is aggress ive and full of fight. The prospect of immediate and lasting good will is not noticeable at present, and the fight for supremacy will increase from this on. Both the Sherman and Foraker adherents are being ignored by the Administration, and the only point that they appear to agree upon is that the President is doing nothing for Ohio. The boys insist on having the loaves and fishes, and they are not forthcom ing. The result is that beyond the practical politicians there is but lit tie interest taken in the contest this year, and if the Republicans sue ceed in getting out anything like a full vote they will do much better than they now dream of. On the other hand the Democrats have nothing to fight about, but plenty to fight for, and with the least lethar gy on the part of the Republicans we will be sure to sweep the State with a fairly good ticket."
